Excellent add-on for my locks and my setup. Not for everyone.
5 Stars
Excellent add-on for my locks and my setup. Not for everyone.
I bought 2 of these to pair up with my carport and front door in May and have not had any problems with them. I will admit that the radios, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, are pretty weak. Both doorbells are less than a foot away from the locks they are paired with having only a door separating them and the signal strength always reports as poor. This hasn't been an issue for me, they operate the locks flawlessly every time. I have a mesh Wi-Fi network with satellite routers within 20 feet of both doors which provides a solid 5ghz connection and reliable 500 Mbps internet service. The speed tests from the doorbells report 30+Mbps download and 5+ up. The video doesn't lag, doorbell calls are responsive and notifications are quick even away from home on TMobiles cell network. I would not recommend getting this if you would be unable to provide similar connectivity. The range on the Wi-Fi radios is pretty low. They'll drop down to 2.4ghz if a strong enough 5ghz signal isn't available. The speed tests suffer tremendously at 2.4ghz and it's during that time that performance isn't up to par. Most complaints I've read seem to be due to not having the proper infrastructure in place to support the low range radios in this product. Given that, I would only recommend this product to semi tech savvy people that can provide close and fast 5ghz Wi-Fi signal to the doorbell (I have a 3 router Orbi AC3000 mesh setup) and are able to supply at least 13volts through the doorbell wiring. So for my particular setup, this is a great product. If you have slow or spotty internet service or are not technically savvy enough to understand these requirements, I'd move on to something else as this will probably disappoint you.

I am very happy with the Doorbell Pro. I like to wait for the second generation on new products, to let the company work out bugs and refine their design. So far the problems I have heard with the first generation are solved. Wifi always shows as strong and it works great in concert with my August SmartLock. The video is impeccable, even under low light or when the sun is in the direct background. Always good color and easy to pick out faces.

Installation was fairly easy. I used the wedge to get a better view of the walkway up to my door, what a great accessory for August to include! The app walked me through setup and getting it connected with my lock. I really love how they work together and I can unlock my door directly from the live view interface.

One thing I was a bit confused on until I got it installed and setup, the Doorbell DOES work as a wifi connection for the SmartLock. So if you get the doorbell, there is no need for the August connect. So far, it works very well. Overall, very happy with this purchase. My girlfriend has a Ring and I help her get it setup. I can say, it is inferior to the August in camera, integration and overall use.

I went with this because I liked the integration that it provided with my existing August smart lock. Most of the negative reviews that I saw were about video quality or about the cloud recording subscription. Since they have enabled free 24 hour storage and view for all videos recorded from the camera, I decided to ignore those and get this.

Installation was straightforward and only took me about 20 minutes to replace my existing doorbell button with this. Where this really failed was with the firmware update; it took 3 weeks for a simple firmware update to actually complete and open up full access to this device. I reset the device a number of times and eventually contacted support about it who walked me through all of the usual steps and eventually told me the firmware update was stuck.

Now that the update is finally completed, the video streaming finally works, and the entire unit is much snappier in response. I do like the fact that this doubles as a Wi-Fi bridge and let's me control the lock through Alexa, and from wherever I have internet access. I do like the product now that it's fully functioning, and it works really well to chat with whoever rings the doorbell and allows direct control of the lock from the video chat screen.

Overall, the product loses a star for being a pain to get it updated. I was never fully informed if it was an issue with my unit, or if the sheer number of devices that were being purchased around the same time overloaded their update servers. At least now that it's working, I don't have to worry about it anymore, and I like the functionality.

If you have an August smart lock, this is the smart doorbell you should get since it integrates directly with the lock. If you have a different brand of smart lock, then this doesn't really have an advantage over other smart doorbell kits out there on the market.

5.0 out of 5 stars You will need a good 3/16" cement drill bit if mounting on brick.
Reviewed in Canada on September 16, 2019
The unit works and is exactly as I visioned and expected it would be. The initial set up on the dock took me some time and was not the fault of the equipment but more my impatience. You need to let it talk to the wifi. I was able to install this perfectly in a new position on the brick instead of the door jam where it would not fit because I has a new door installed and ere was plenty of slack in the lines so no issues. Picture quality is excellent and voice very good. I used the angle where my install is located and the motion detector picks up only I to the third out of five steps thta I have it set for I don't need it any further smile I gotcha! I had a hoot checking the live camera from my grocery store to see how it works from a distance. Awesome! Now if you having some set up issues like inside door chime most likely you will be able to correct them in the setting tab on the app. Have patience after you make a move go about of the app then back in let the machine work. I have no issues with any set up. If you are having extra problem go to the help section on the app and read what you need carefully. Very easy instructions and on point. I would buy this again and have recommended to others. What I don't like would be a preference in as instead of us using our iPad or iPhones if it were to come with a simple screen pad thta could be stuck on the wall in our kitchen or on the fridge so anyone could access it at anytime.

Amazon or the August product descriptions never pointed out the fact that the August skill is not available for Alexa outside of US. Now my purchase of two August products worth hundreds of pounds is not even half as useful as I thought they would be. Stay away from this if you are not in US.

1.0 out of 5 stars After just 1 year, it failed. Power supply for non US need some searching. Else work out of the box
Reviewed in Singapore on June 8, 2020
After just having it 1 year, doorbell failed. Doorbell just shut itself off and august support does not respond to emails at all.

Works out of the box. Integrate with doorlock and could replace the Bluetooth connect bridge.
Integrate with Google assistant to broadcast doorbell announcement.

Between push button and phone alert is approx 2 seconds.

For Singapore users using 24VAC voltage which is rare and I found my adaptor at element14 site 240VAC to 24VAC.
