    Product Description

The TL SG108E 8 Port Gigabit Easy Smart switch is an ideal upgrade from an unmanaged switch, designed for Small and Medium Business networks that require simple network management. Network administrators can effectively monitor traffic via Port Mirroring, Loop Prevention and Cable Diagnostics features. To optimize traffic on your business network, TL SG108E offers Port based/802.1p/DSCP QoS2 to keep latency sensitive traffic moving smoothly and jitter free. Additionally, port based, tag based and MTU VLAN can improve security and meet more network segmentation requirements. Moreover, with its innovative energy efficient technology, the TL SG108E can save up to 58 percent of power consumption, making it an nature friendly solution for your business network. TP LINK’s Gigabit Easy Smart switch, TL SG108E offers network monitoring for users to observe traffic behavior. With Port Mirroring, Loop Prevention and Cable Diagnostics features, TL SG108E can identify and even locate connection problems on your business network. Moreover, administrators can designate the priority of the traffic based on Port Priority, 802.1P and DSCP Priority, to ensure that voice and video are always clear, smooth and lag free. Additionally, to improve security and network performance, TL SG108E supports MTU VLAN, port based VLAN and 802.1Q based VLAN functions. TL SG108E is an upgrade from the plug and play Unmanaged Switch, delivering great value while empowering your network and similarly delivering great value to the end user. You now have the choice to go green when upgrading to a gigabit network! This new generation of TL SG108E 8 Port Gigabit Easy Smart Switch features the latest energy efficient technologies that can greatly expand your network’s capacity with much less power. It automatically adjusts power consumption according to the link status and cable length to limit the carbon footprint of your network. When a computer or network equipment is off, the corresponding port of a traditional switch will continue to consume considerable amounts of power. The TL SG108E can automatically detect the link status of each port and reduce the power consumption of ports that are idle. Ideally, shorter cables would use less power with less power degradation over their length; this is not the case with most devices as they will use the same amount of power across the cable regardless of whether it is 10 or 50 meters in length. The TL SG108E analyzes the length of the Ethernet cable connected and adjusts the power usage accordingly, rather than keeping the power consumption in a conventional solution. TL SG108E is easy to use and manage. Auto MDI/MDI X crossover on all ports eliminate the need for crossover cables or uplink ports. Auto negotiation on each port senses the link speed of a network device (either 10, 100, or 1000 Mbps) and intelligently adjusts for compatibility and optimal performance. Its compact size makes it ideal for desktops with limited space while also being Rack mountable, convenient and safe. Dynamic LED lights provide real time work status display and basic fault diagnosis.

I recently was able to get a great internet service. I have a nice panel in my house but only about 4 or 5 connections. The reason for that is that I never had a switch that could handle so many ports. Having a great internet also made me want to cover each and every port. This was the answer and I really love it. Worked great as soon as I hooked it up. I took my time and feed 18 Cat 6 ethernet cables to the switch as I was told that the Cat 6 carried the signal a little better. Amazon also had the Cat 6 cables for a great price. And they worked beautifully. Really happy with the TP-Link 24 Port Gigabit Ethernet Switch. My old swtiches were TP-Link and have worked great for years.

I replaced an older 24 port switch with this new TL-SG116E switch. Had it all set up and connected and all looked great. But when I was done I decided to move the power brick from one spot on the power strip to another spot. The switch never came back up. Tried everything but all I got was a green power light. I'm returning it the next day after receiving it for another one. Hopefully I just got a bad one and the next one will work great. I'll give an update on the second unit.

Not even 2 months having this TP Link 48 Port Unmanaged Switched and completely took down my network infrastructure causing an outtage of over 8 hours on a busy work day! An unmanaged switch is just supposed to work but apparently it's a ticking time bomb before it takes down your network making you scramble to find consultants, talk to employees over the phone, or have you drop everything to come to the office and troubleshoot a piece of crapware. Just to be sure, I took it out of the network to run tests and it would just freeze or not even auto negotiate traffic. So words of wisdom, cheap doesnt always mean good and i wish i could return the TP Switch but it so happens i'm 7 days past the return window!!! It's like my switch knew to die right after the return window passed... DO NOT BUY!

This device had been working perfectly fine for the past six months or so when I started using it. It has been in an well ventilated area, never heats up and only have three cables plugged into it. Been using it as a regular switch with one port that is configured as a mirror port which I haven't used in few months.

Out of nowhere, the switch has been consistently dropping connections every hour. Resetting the switch back to factory settings (which they already were) didn't solve the issue so it must be faulty internal circuitry. Unfortunately I can't return it since it's too late so I have to knock it to one star. A device that carries a high price tag should work longer then six months. I went back to my $8 D-Link switch which has worked for years. I'll just invest in a tap instead of a managed switch for the port mirroring capabilities.

Its funny how you always need more ports that you think :) I have used TP link switches plenty of times and I knew that this one would be great as well. I wasn't wrong! Solid build, plenty of ports, and a good price.
I liked the fact that I could add the switch to a rack in the future if I wanted. My current set up is not on a rack but I do have plans for one in the future. Great product and would buy this one again.

I got one DOA but the replacement is working fine.

I like the metal construction, but I wish the power connector was on the same side as the Ethernet ports. As it is there are cables on BOTH sides of it.

UPDATE 1. After a couple of days, the switch slowed down to about 100mbps for some reason. I unplugged it and plugged it back in and the speeds went back to normal. Disappointing. Perhaps I got a bad switch a second time?

UPDATE 2. Definitely it slows down to 100 mbps and it requires a reboot every couple of days or so.

UPDATE 3. Replaced the replacement, but the issue persists: it works fine for a little while, it could be a couple of hours or a couple of days, and then it slows down to 100mbps. So no idea what is going on.

I bought a few of those, but same issues are on all. Not supporting IGMP, general slow down when multicast is streamed. Doesn't Abe to reach the gigabit at any scenario.
Avoid. It is a waste of your money.
I have reached the support for the igmp issue (which is in the spec) - the answer was "why do you need igmp?"

Everything was working fine when I first received the switch. Thought everything was great and had no issues. However, 3 months came and suddenly the switch was not working with any of my devices. The activity lights were working fine, but the internet was no longer working with anything connected. I contacted support via TPLink's website and was met with horrid support. I spent almost 2 hours trying to troubleshoot and ended with communicating with their "seniors". I will update this when I get a response, but stay away from this product just from the support perspective. I will be looking at Netgear in the future.

If you want to completely destroy your network, plug this thing in. It's miraculous. I spent about 10 hours trying to determine why various completely unrelated ethernet devices, not plugged into this switch, suddenly failed. Hours on tech support calls, replaced devices that no longer would connect to the internet - until it dawned on me that I had recently added this piece of junk. Unpluged it and voila - all problems disappeared.

If you want to play a real dirty trick on someone you absolutely hate - plug this evil device into their network and watch them go slowly insane...

    It's not a switch - it's an ethernet jammer.
