- Reliable 60W charging on the USB-C PD port for my primary, power-hungry device
- 3 USB-A ports for charging my phone, camera, and tablet at the same time
- Has worked well for me for the better part of a year now
Cons / limitations:
- USB-A power is limited (2.4A total), so you won't get high-speed charging on those ports if you are charging more than one at a time
I would love to find a single, reliable, high-power charger that can provide 60W PD for my laptop as well as 3-4 USB-A ports at up to 2.4A each to charge all my other devices quickly. I haven't been able to find that yet - the 60W PD requirement rules out most adapters at present (September 2018). However, this one comes pretty close to what I'm looking for.
Whether this adapter is a good choice for you depends a lot on what you need it to do. Here's what it does well:
Charge 2 devices quickly:
- Charge 1 high-power (60W PD) device + 1 USB-A device at 2.4A
- Fast-charge 1 device (such as my iPhone 8) with a USB-C charging cable + 1 USB-A device at 2.4A
Charge 1 device quickly + 3 others at a slower rate
- By charging more than 1 USB-A device, you have to share the 2.4A total power. Some reviewers have complained about this, and ideally, I'd love 3 x 2.4A ports. However, I still find it convenient to be able to top off several secondary devices while charging my main device via the USB-C port.
What it doesn't do well: charge multiple USB-A devices quickly. If that's a priority for you, you should look at other adapters. If you can manage with a lower PD power supply, say 30W, there are a number of good options available.
ORIGINAL REVIEW: I have been using this device for 3 weeks without issue. However, last night I had my phone plugged into it overnight at 16% battery, and while the phone indicated that it was being charged, when I checked it in the morning, the battery had drained down to 12%. There was nothing running on the phone to explain this issue. It's not clear yet whether the issue is the device, or the cord I am using. However based on other 1 star reviews of this device, it seems likely that the issue is with the device.
(FYI this issue occurred using a USB-A to USB-C cord with my Pixel 2. This configuration does not fast charge my phone, but in the past it has fully charged the phone over the course of a night. I have confirmed that the USB-C port does fast charge my Pixel 2, I just wasn't using the USB-C port because I didn't have a USB-C to USB-C cord available.)
I am considering returning this item before my 30-day return window expires.
This is a very good charger at an excellent price. Up to 60 W via USB-C (20 V x 3 A) and up to 12 W (2.4 A) via USB-A for charging cellphones or other low power devices. Have used it about 1 month so far without any issues. I have bought other similar chargers for $20 or more (e.g. Amazon Basics 68W Two-Port GaN Wall Charger with 1 USB-C and 1 USB-A Port), and ~$20 was a good price. This one is less than $10 and:
*is UL listed (for safety)
*Can charge a HP Elitebook 850 G6 laptop with 15" screen
*is versatile with both USB-A and USB-C charging ports
*can operate off 100-240 VAC and has a detachable power cord
I don't give something more than 4 stars unless it's very good AND lasts a long time, so I'll try to update this review in a year or so.
In the meantime, if you need a primary or spare USB-C charger for your laptop, you may be wasting money if you get something other than this one.
I did not run a scientific comparison but it was able to charge the laptop while in use, about as fast as the OEM unit. I am using mine with a current generation Yoga 920. Like the OEM charger this gets hot when charging, but perhaps not as hot as the factory unit.
There are no lights to confirm charging - a minus but also a plus as there is no annoying blue light to keep you awake at night.
I am using it with an Anker USB-C to USB-C cable. Be careful not to plug the USB-C to USB-C cable into your phone. Use the USB-A ports to charge your phone. I saw a YouTube video demonstrating that a device of this type (not the Cable Matters) could deliver excess voltage to a phone. Don't take chances with your expensive smartphone.
