For a bit of background.... I've been using MMO mice exclusively for my MMOs for the last decade or so. I've tried all the major brand MMO mice. Started with the Naga when that first came out. Tried the G600 and the Corsair one when those came out. Bought a lot of Nagas over the years(3 wired and 4 wireless), they all had tracking/skipping issues within about 6 months (as do all Razer mice I've tried). Eventually I would start swapping them I had so many. When one would act up I would grab a spare. That one would work again for a little bit and I would have to swap again. I had 5 different PCs/laptops I used over the years, so I knew it was a mouse issue and not my computer. Once they had started making wireless versions, I was stuck. When I tried the G600 for a bit, I had to go back to the Naga because the G600 is massive and hard to maneuver. The Corsair turned out to be an excellent option, but their software is awful and no wireless was a problem when I wanted to travel, so it stays with my desktop now. I'm honestly surprised we haven't had another wireless option sooner... I know this probably came out a while ago, but I also don't play MMOs as much as I used to... mostly just play FF14 casually these days.
I used a Redragon wired MMO (M901) mouse for this, which is perfect other than being wired. This looked great! Bluetooth, so I don't need a dongle, saves all settings onto the mouse itself so I can use it different places, lots of buttons.
Unfortunately, the mouse behaves differently in Bluetooth mode. It lowers the polling rate to 125hz (fine), disables all LED customization (fine), and severely restricts what the button presses can be bound to. Now, if I'd read the manual carefully before buying it, it *does* say that. But it's actually not quite correct! It says that it will only allow keyboard button presses, but not macros. Not true! You can do at least double-button macros (ctrl-c) without issues.
You can do whatever short button combos you like as long as they don't include the "Windows" key. So, screen snipping? Switch desktops? Task viewer? Not on Bluetooth. Those buttons just stop working. If you plug it in, or use the wireless dongle, then they come right back. So close!
It does save everything on the mouse. You can uninstall the software and have most functionality once you get it set up.
The only other thing that bugs is that the side buttons are covering a pretty big area. Specifically, a pretty *long*, flat area. It's a bit of a reach to get to the 1-3 row at the front of the mouse. The Redragon mouse has them compressed into a smaller space, and they're in a wavy profile, so it's easier to tell by feel which row you're on. It's the kind of thing I'll just get used to, I'm sure.
Other stuff:
Looks: Pretty cool!
Build quality: To my eye, top-notch.
Weight: Basically nothing.
Scroll wheel click side-to-side: Two extra buttons! (ctrl+left and ctrl+right for the cool kids)
Software: Tolerable. Weirdly doesn't utilize space very well. A+ for not needing to be running all the time if I don't want.
Battery life: Seems great, but can't confirm. I've only charged it once, but I don't actually need to use it all that often.
All that being said, this is now my travel mouse. I think some other MMO mouse will probably do exactly what I want, but the time I've spent trying to fix this particular problem is more than I'll save with a lifetime's worth of hitting win+tab on a keyboard. I'll just deal.
Making the mouse use all possible profiles in Bluetooth seems like the kind of thing that could be changed with a firmware update. Maybe SteelSeries could enable all functionality on Bluetooth. Maybe with a warning that it'll use up more battery or whatever? I would be so happy to make that trade.
Top reviews from other countries
- It weighs slightly more but is still super light and very responsive.
- It has a dongle for connecting but also supports bluetooth. Very useful if you have multiple computers.
- It has plenty of shortcut buttons.
On the plus side, it's nice & light for moving, and the wholes at the top prevent a lot of sweatiness. Btu they also allow a fantastic ton of debris to fall into the mouse, which I assume will destroy it in a year or such.
Overall a terrible purchase for the price. I may like it more once I get it warrantied but this mouse single handedly shook my faith in buying more steelserries products.
