    Product Description

To take advantage of the increased popularity of M. 2 solid state drives, SilverStone created the MS09, a premium, pocketable M. 2 enclosure. It has an exquisite anodized aluminum exterior with a size that is nearly as small as common USB thumb drives. Internally, it fits M. 2 SATA SSD up to 80mm so the MS09 can be used with a wide variety of new or repurposed M. 2 SATA SSD from laptops and turning them into high-speed USB flash drive. To make the most of M. 2 SATA SSD's performance, it also incorporates USB 3. 1 Gen 2 interface for superfast read/write and excellent compatibility. Lastly, the MS09 is designed to work without additional driver installation so you can conveniently take it anywhere and use it on nearly any PC instantly.

Quick shipper, SSD External Enclosure doesn't work. Please Do an RMA or something.
I finally was able to get a SSD, M.2 for this sweet-looking USB external SSD enclosure. First SSD I purchased, was a Western Digital, WD_Black with Heat Sink. If course not knowing, I soon figured out that this would be to thick for the enclosure, so that went into my PC. I then purchased a Samsung 970 EVO Plus without a Heat Sink. It wouldn't fit into the USB's connector. I even used a nail file to file down the edges of the PCB Board (to try and get it to connect). Unable to get it to work, I checked the SSD with my PC's second M.2 connection, got perfectly and was immediately recognised. After trying with two (2) different SSDs with two different companies. I decided to try one more time by purchasing another WD_Black without a Heatsink SN750 (Pictures in this review). Finally the day arrived that I had everything needed to FINALLY get this external (fast-as-Hell) USB Drive Enclosure put together. I went to put the M.2 into the connection. It seems weird, because the M.2 has to be installed upside down onto the PCB. I put it all together. Screwed the four (4) screws in to each corner. Tried to slide the USB connector out, and was unable. I unscrewed the four (4) screws and decided to try and plug it into my PC to just try it out. The computer (Windows10 Pro) didn't recognize the external drive being connected. I tried EVERY USB on my Rig, both top-front as well as the rear Main USBs on the Motherboard. Nothing! I went to Windows Disk Management Console and didn't see the drive listed. I rebooted the PC and entered into the BIOS where both of the Previous two (2) M.2s showed up, but still the External Enclosure was not recognised. Now I am outside the 30-days and have a piece of equipment that does NOT work! I'd really like to give a good review, but I am unable to do this. I do remember; that the seller was quick to ship this item, but that's as far as I can go with anything positive to say about this experience. I have verified that this NEW SSD M.2 does work, just not in this enclosure. Please Seller, do to the circumstances of having to do so much troubleshooting. By purchasing new hardware, there different times. I'm asking you to reach out and try to make this right. I'd really like to have the External Enclosure, just one that actually works. Would you be so kind as to work with me to that I can RMA this for one that works.Update: No one EVER reached out to me, in the end I was left with throwing away a piece of crap USB enclosure and out the money.

Compact, portable and fast. I ended up getting three of them, one in each color. One was for my wife to help incentivize her to back up her laptop more frequently, and two were to provide expanded storage for my Hades Canyon Nuc, and a portable backup drive for myself. I’ve got them mounted to the case with some 3M velcro strips so I can quickly pop then off and plug them in somewhere else.

Each one is housing a 1 TB SSD, all made in different years from different manufacturers (Samsung, Crucial, and WD). Others have complained about the fit of the SSD’s but I haven’t had an issue at all. As a side note, I also used them for smaller 256 GB SSD’s, again, to transfer data while setting up, and they all fit without issues as well. All SSD’s I used were the standard 2280 form factor.

I have synced hundreds of gigs worth of data regularly on these drives and haven’t noticed any issues. They’ve been very reliable even when plugged in for days or weeks at a time. I’ve also used them on both Windows and Linux (Ubuntu) machines without issue.

The enclosures do get pretty warm either when plugged in for a while or when transferring a lot of data, but never too hot. Given that M.2’s have been known to get pretty warm (especially NVMe’s), so I consider this a feature :P.

Performance has also been great! There is a measurable difference between plugging this in to a USB 3.0 port and a USB 3.1 gen 2 port. However, that speed measurement was using a synthetic workload. I doubt you’d notice a difference when actually transferring files since there is quite a bit of additional overhead involved.

One final note. The first enclosure I got was the grey one and it has had the smoothest operation while sliding out the plug. The black and silver ones that I got several months later feel like they stick while sliding the plug out. I can’t say whether this is due to a general change in the manufacturing process, different batches, or directly related to the finish on the drives.

Simply an outstanding protective enclosure to make high-capacity flash drives, using solid-state media. Right now I use 5 of them in total in various capacities from 500 MB to 2 TB primarily for the purpose of backing up irrepressible music files, photographs, and personal items on my computer. All 5 of them work well for their intended purpose the company is very generous in sending a highly useful screwdriver to open and close each case. For me, there well-made, not junk, my only recommendation if you plan to go this route in this type of enclosure is dealing with the real fine screws. I personally use a magnetic tray to secure the screws from disappearing.

This is the best companion for any SATA m.2 SSD. This however does not cater for NVME SSD due to power limitations of USB. It is neat, robust and has a professional look. I have the 2TB installed and it just works perfectly. This portable M.2 SSD is faster that a normal USB flash drive.

I have a 256Gb Crucial M600 SSD. I originally installed it into a ZTC enclosure, but discovered that Window 10 systems have problem ejecting the drive. I also encountered data corruption issues with the ZTC enclosure.

This is the main reason I decides to try out the Silverstone enclosure instead. The USB 3.1 allows data transfer of 100+Mps, and there has been no data corruption issues. This is a far better SSD enclosure from a reliability standpoint.

    PROS:
    -no necesita drivers adicionales

5.0 out of 5 stars Classy AF portable M.2 SATA SSD enclosure
Reviewed in Canada on August 1, 2019

Whenever I have to do a physical data-migration, I bring one of these with me and the in-house Tech usually gives me a look and says, "It's going to take forever using a flash drive". I then pop in my Silverstone with a 2TB Samsung 860 Evo and start the migration and the Tech always realizes it's an SSD and then asks where I got it. Great investment with great build quality. Feels like billet aluminum.
