After intense research on dashcams I decided to go with a dual dash cam that is capable of being hidden behind the rear-view mirror , 1080p video, high quality voice recorder and easy access to recorded videos at a reasonable price. To say the least, this is a very hard combination to find. That is until I found this Viofo A129 dual. I instantly fell in love with it as the company literally worked on every detail of this camera to provide a easy to use, well-rounded, high quality product available to the average driver. I made the purchase on January 22nd of 2018 and received it within two days! I was excited and immediately installed it and played around with the settings. It was awesome to say the least as everything that i was looking for was as promised...high video quality (night recording is superb), voice recording quality, accessibility, etc.
If you are planning on buying this camera (highly recommended) I would also suggest to add the following to use it to its full potential
-Hardwire kit- after installing it, it becomes a out of sight out of mind situation. I love it.
-Either the Viofo micro SD or a Samsung EVO U3 64GB, 64GB is good enough for a 24hr recording before it loops
-Bluetooth remote: usually, when you need to record something, it is during times of high stress and this little device makes everything 100 times easier.
HIghly recommend for night and day driving for average Joe, Taxi, Rideshare, commercial drivers.

I posted these picture because I wanted to show how perfectly hidden the front camera can be installed behind the rear-view mirror. Also, the rear camera is well design to not stand out as much. since my purchase, only one person has ever mention the camera and said, "i have the A119". he knew what it was and was impressed.

This is Capacitor based, which is important for my conditions, where at summer it can get 130F and at winter in mountains for ski / snowboard 0F
I had several dashcam with li-po battery and all went bad in an year or two due to heat
So, keep this in mind if you want to keep dashcam for several years and your car is exposed to 0F-130F.
it isn't temp outside, but inside car at windshield, especially under direct sunlight.
both cameras has current best Sony Starvis sensor IMX291
it works really good in all challenging conditions
other higher resolution dashcam with 4mp or 5mp delivers better at day time, however those fails at night time so higher resolution doesn't deliver much
this is duo dashcam for anyone under $200 budget, you can't find any better in this price range
yes, you can find for less, but video quality will not be equal.
most common question - why to pay extra for duo vs 2 standalone?
I'd answer:
1. convenience to have both front and rear video on the same storage / microSD
2. no need for extra power and looking for outlet for rear camera, one wire from front to rear
3. bonus - you can view on dashcam display real time video from rear, also comes convenient in tight parking spots regardless of backup camera
hope it help someone to pick right one
This camera has all the features I was looking for: GPS, rear camera, wifi, and a capacitor back up battery to allow files to save completely when you turn the ignition off. From what I've read, the capacitor system is better than a small internal battery because it's less subject to damage from high heat (like here in Florida).
The installation is pretty straightforward. For now I've plugged it into the cigarette lighter. I plan to hardware it in later. The rear camera is connected by a cable (4 meters I believe) which is pretty thick, but I was able to tuck it up in my headliner. The wifi feature seems to work very well with my iPhone and iPads using the free app. You can set up camera settings, download videos and view videos using your phone.
The camera takes about 15 seconds to boot up from power on. So if you just hit your ingnition and go, you may miss something in those first few moments. The camera gets time and date from the GPS base, but you do have to set your time zone. You also have to set the display to MPH (if you're in the US) since the default is KM/Hr. The built in screen is pretty small, but I don't think it's very useful anyway. You'll use your phone for most activities. By default, the screen automatically shuts off after a few minutes. The recorded image is very good. I went for a test ride yesterday and reading signs and license plates is fairly easy. I really like the GPS feature as it records your speed and position. It's good to see how fast you normally drive as a reminder to slow down. The GPS coordinates can also be useful. If you're looking back at video and see something interesting, you can plug the coordinates into google maps and see exactly where that video was recorded.
The unit has a built in impact sensor which has 3 sensitivity levels. From what I've read, most people set it to lowest sensitivity. Videos are stored in individual files set to a recording length set by the user. The default is 3 minutes, which means you create 2 files (front and rear) every 3 minutes. Each file is about 160 MB in size. If the shock sensor detects an event, the file that is being currently recorded is "locked", meaning it won't be automatically erased once the cameral loop recording has used up all available space on your SD card. If you set the sensitivity too high, your card can end up recording a lot of useless videos that fill up the card and eventually the card will no longer have room for new recording. You can also manually lock files by pressing a button on the camera. This is useful when you see someone else crash, or a road rage incident, or just something interesting you want to look at later. There is also an optional bluetooth button you can buy that sticks on your dashboard for initiating the lock file function. This way you're not fumbling trying to reach the camera if you need it.
About the only thing I don't like about this camera is the way it mounts to the window. It sticks pretty securely using the supplied tape pads, but once you mount it you can only adjust what the camera sees by tilting the lens up and down. Other dash cams that mount with suction cups or other stand-off mounts allow you to tilt the camera anywhere you want. This would be useful for example if you get pulled over by a cop and want to record the interaction. You just twist the camera toward your passenger window and you get a video/audio recording of the event. The upside to the way this camera mounts is that it is very solid and fairly hard to see.
I have a Jeep with a soft top and I was trying to figure out how to mount the rear camera since I don't have a glass window in the rear. Also, I frequently remove the back window. I ended up putting the camera on the rear sound bar of my jeep, which is just behind the passenger seats. The result is surprisingly good. You do see some obstruction from the top, and the tire does stick into the picture, but overall the image is very good (of course if you have an old yellowed, scratched window, it won't be so good.
