1. Ease of set up - Literally took 10 minutes to get up and running. I was actually worried about setting this up on my own because its a NAS product, but to my surpise, it took 1 click and I was up and running.
2. Longevity - I've purposely had my ReadyNAS set up for 6 months to make sure my review is thorough and accurate & its still working as new
3. ReadyCloud interface is nice! - I'm non-technical, but its easy to navigate and set up key features such as backup, accounts, sharing
4. Packed with technical features for my husband - The product is perfect for all users. My husband is technical and he's been able to set up advanced features and actually likes making tweaks for performance and storing
5. Looks cool on our desk - I'm not a fan of gadgets or wiring everywhere, but this product actually looks good and almost serves as a desk accessory
Phone/Video Backup: I love the idea of taking pictures on my iPhone and being able to backup right away and save data. For a while I was getting the "storage limit" notification on my iPhone, but now thats gone and I have backups of all my features. I can also easily access my photos and share them with family members and even on my travel blog. 5 stars for this!
App: The app makes it quick and easy for me to look up a document, change settings, perform a backup, or just share my data. I was used to using Dropbox for a while, but this has replaced that use and is great.
Would I recommend this to a friend? Definitely, and in fact, I have already. I've always been worried about losing family milestone photos (including my wedding), but with the disk and cloud backup, I am covered either way! I do plan to upgrade disk storage soon.
Thanks Netgear for having me participate in the review/test program and sending this my way. It's perfect for my needs and I'll continue to add more Netgear products so I can make best use of all the features.

Overall a great NAS for a home network or a media user. My ONLY Con is that the advertised Link Aggregation mode does not work with my less than 2 year old Nighthawk X4S - AC2600 router.... I have two Cat6e cables going to it, but the Link Aggregation function does not work on my setup/router... however this is more of me not having the newest router I guess.
Overall... Zero regrets!
I have owned this unit for3 years and it works flawlessly, however Netgear pushed out a software review that now does not allow for security updates. Basically if you buy Netgeat you have a 3 year limit of it's use - is this a good buy now? no
Previous review
Netgear NAS should be in every home. The multiple uses and long life has proven it to be the best bang for the buck. I am replacing an old unit onlu because it has come to it's end of life and the new features of the upgrade makes\s the new more useful.
This is clearly a lie. First attempt with Plex at showing subtitles resulted in a "not powerful enough" error message.
Don't be fooled by the marketing from Netgear. This NAS is not capable of handling transcoding.
Sending back right away

I have 2x3TB WD-RED drives installed, they also operate quietly and remains cool.
Im very happy with my unit so far, and trust it will serve me well for many years.

I use it as a media center.
I installed the Plex app and it works great for publishing and making available my videos. Seamless integration with Wifi with no disconnects, Access the server via IP address to folders on Windows PC for uploading content. Use the Plex app to index, manage, and make the content available. Quiet running.
