I had heard bad things about the scroll wheel. I love this mouse's scroll wheel. I just want to clear this up first: this ain't your grandma's scroll wheel. There are two modes, "clicky mode" and "inertial mode" both do what they sound like. The wheel itself has some nice heft to it for excellent sustained rotational inertia, meaning this thing spins satisfyingly well. It can spin so much it's completely impractical. The clicky mode has satisfying strong clicks, likely to compensate for the weight of the wheel, but it has extra utility when playing games in which you need to use the scroll wheel to switch between things, (e.g. Arma, VALVe titles). The actual click is not exceptional, but it doesn't feel too cheap. It can also scroll side to side, but I personally don't like how it's utilized in Windows so i don't use it, which has nothing to do with the mouse itself. Maybe Windows 10 will give me a reason to want to scroll left and right. I don't find myself accidentally scrolling side to side like some other reviewers are pointing out, but I will report that the right side scroll is indeed harder than the left.
The weights:
I have never owned a mouse with adjustable weighting. These weights are very insignificant in my opinion, 5x 3.6 gram weights. The difference between extremes is noticeable, but honestly I would think that the tracking surface that you use would have a larger impact on the feel and resistance of the mouse. The weights add additional inertia which I might understand is good for some gamers, but I don't feel like it gives me a "technical advantage." But my plan is to play with the weights in and when the game counts, I'll take the weights out and my power level will go up Dragonball Z style.
The materials:
The feet are surprisingly numerous. Two large bevelled plastic feet on the top and bottom, one large one under the thumb, and a little one on the right side, and two tiny ones flanking the sensor. I personally have a Razer Manticor mouse pad, which is aluminum and this thing flies over it, its even smoother that the Razer Taipan which felt like it was scraping the aluminum sometimes as one of the feet would stick out a little too much. The actually grip is fantastic. The rubber on the thumb sides is not that soft, but it has a decent texture to it and feels like it will last for many years. The plastic on the buttons and main body is smooth, and feels nice. The material design is a great all around combination in my book.
The sensor:
Shiver me timbers, 12000 DPI sure is a lot. I have used 8200 DPI mice in the past and coming from that, 12000 feels unusable in most cases. As for accuracy, it does't feel like the mouse struggles to reach this sensitivity. In contrast, my old Razer Taipan at its max of 8200 felt a little like the measurements suffered from a small amount of noise. The G502 felt nice and smooth, even at 12000, but this is of course rather subjective.
The Buttons:
My hand is likely smaller than average hand size, and the G502 did feel a tad big, but the ergonomics of the mouse still shined. Coming from the ambidextrous Taipan, the G502 was the perfect mix of ergonomic enough to feel relaxed, but not alien. The placement of the buttons makes plenty of sense to me, and I found that I click erroneously less now that I don't have to rest my right most two fingers on the right side buttons Razer thought were necessary. The "Sniper button" is farther up than i thought, so having small hands i have to reach my thumb up to press it. It works though, and its not out of reach.primary buttons are great too, and side buttons are in convenient locations given the design logitech had in mind when designing them. M4 and M5 are above the thumb in pretty typical places, and they are pressed upward, convenient for thumb placement. Two additional buttons were placed left of the primary click intended for DPI switching, and for this, they are excellent. Button use is customizable of course. I personally don't really touch the profile switcher, no real need for more than one for me.
Design:
You can evaluate this one for yourself by looking at the pictures. I don't like the look that most gaming peripherals have, and I think this is true of a lot of modern gamers out there. This is where Logitech fumbles the most for me, just look at there newest G910 keyboard and the keycaps on those. This mouse is toned down a little from that, but I'd personally like to see a more minimalistic and comfy-looking design rather than the angled look they have going that draws your attention. Marks off here for me. love the cord though, it's actually nicer and smoother than the one on my Razer Taipan and that's saying something.
Software:
The Logitech gaming software has come a long way since I first got my G35 headset many years ago. It's fairly polished and I like the presentation of everything, simple and clutter free, yet still there are lots of options. You can have three profiles, each of which can have different button and DPI layouts. These profiles can be toggled using the profile switcher button in the middle of the mouse, simple. Heatmaps, and light customization is available too. The software tries to start up with windows, but since all settings are stored within the device, thats not necessary, so I'd recommend disabling the startup with windows.
TL;DR Conclusion:
The G502 is better than my old Razer Taipan in pretty much every way possible, except the look. It's not ugly, but I'm not a fan of the gamer aesthetic. It fits my hand well, even though the mouse is just a tad big for my small hands and I am satisfied with all buttons and software. This is hands down (pun intended) the best mouse I've ever used.
The scroll wheel is definitely worth talking about. First of all, if you've never had a Logitech smooth scrolling wheel, prepare to spend about an hour a day just playing around with it. Once the novelty wears off, you might find it to be a pretty nice feature. For some reason, though, Logitech's smooth scrolling software (which makes scrolling roll smoothly instead of jump line to line) is not available for its gaming mice. I hope they rectify this situation at some point, because it really is a bummer to have a smooth wheel but a choppy display. With the wheel set to detent mode, you'll notice that the wheel snaps between positions very deliberately (and rather loudly). I imagine this is a plus in games where you use the scroll wheel to switch between various weapons/items. Finally, I was very pleased with the left/right scroll functions of the wheel. These seem to always be barely usable on so many other mice, but you get deliberate, deep clicks from the wheel on this mouse.
The 'forward' and 'back' buttons along with G7 and G8 are super easy to actuate from a palm/fingertip grip (which is what I use). Instead of picking up your whole finger, you can simply rock your thumb/finger forwards and back to change which button you're clicking. This seriously cuts down on the amount of traveling your fingers have to do. If you have a claw style grip, you'll find that the buttons are easily actuated no matter where you press, so you can get a similar result by positioning your fingers where the button pairs meet.
The Logitech gaming mouse software offers a huge amount of customization. You can have 3 profiles, each of which can have up to 6 different DPI levels which are adjustable in 50 DPI increments from 200 to 12000. Every button (besides the smooth scroll button) can be reprogrammed to a specific function, keystroke combination, or keystroke macro. One button can be assigned as the "G-Shift" button, which changes every other function when pressed. This means that you could have up to 20 different functions, keystrokes, or macros accessible from your 11 button mouse.
This mouse feels great, looks awesome, and has powerful functionality. I wish Logitech had better software to support the smooth scrolling wheel, but it's not bad enough to dock a star. I can't imagine wanting a different mouse any time in the future.
P.S. My hand measures 7.5" from wrist to middle finger, 3.5 inches across the knuckles, and my thumb is about 2.25" measured from the webbing. If your hand is similarly sized, you'll probably really like this mouse.

説明の通り、使用された形跡も無く、外箱も比較的いい状態で満足していたのですが.... 使ってみるとセンサーの調子が悪いらしく結構頻繫にポインタが飛んだり止まったりして使いづらいです。
少し残念な買い物でした。
I HIGHLY recommend it. I have no complaints whatsoever with it.
-- Buttons --
All of the buttons on this mouse feel SO nice. This mouse features fully mechancial microswitches for each mousebutton, and you can really feel the difference. Each click, each button press feels so crisp and responsive. The buttons require little effort to press, but have enough initial resistance so that you won't press or click by accident. ... I'm somewhat obsessed with mechanical keyboards, so it makes a huge difference to me that my mouse also has mechanical switches! Seriously, though, these buttons feel wonderful (even coming from a Razer Mamba, which I previously thought was the best in terms of mouse click feel-goods).
Button placement is great. Each button is within reach. This aspect really depends on the size of your hand and how you hold a mouse, so your mileage may vary.
-- Scroll Wheel --
I was really skeptical of the mouse wheel at first. Like many other Logitech mice, the G502 Proteus Core features two different kinds of scrolling - a stepped scroll that is much like other scroll wheels, where you can turn the wheel at measured intervals, and a 'free-wheel' with little friction - one flick and it can keep spinning for ~35 seconds. In my experience with other Logitech mice, the stepped scrolling didn't feel as precise or 'tight' as I would have liked, but I considered it a tradeoff for the handy 'free-wheel' feature.
However, I found that there is NO such tradeoff with this mouse. I think stepped scrolling is perfect. It feels just as precise as any other mouse. The 'free-wheel' is just as awesome and spinny as other Logitech models. It's apparent that the guys at Logitech put a lot of effort in to perfecting the dual-mode scroll wheel, and it really shows. I can't imagine a scroll wheel getting any better than this. Right and left tilt on the scroll wheel is also very well implemented - precise and tight. There's no way you will accidentally tilt the scroll wheel when you mean to middle click and vice versa. The scroll wheel is made of metal and feels super solid. I was concerned that it's not rubberized like most other scroll wheels, but I've never had an issue with the scroll wheel feeling slippery at all, thanks to the textured grooves on the scroll wheel.
-- Tracking --
I have had 0 issues with the tracking on this mouse. The sensor can be calibrated and customized for the surface you're mousing on to ensure that this mouse will track amazingly well no matter what you're mousing on. More on this below in the Software section.
The tracking quality of a mouse isn't something you notice until it's gone. My previous (3) mice, the Razer Mamba, was great but had intermittent issues with tracking that rendered it unreliable (and therefore, completely useless as a gaming mouse). No issues with the G502 Proteus Core. It tracks very well on all the mouse pads I've tried it on (including: Razer Destructor 2, Razer Kabuto, Artisan Shiden, Artisan Hien, Artisan Hayate...)
-- Comfort --
This mouse fits my hand like a glove. I love its shape, especially the slightly extended lip that supports the thumb. The textured, hardened rubber on the right and left sides feel great to the touch, and seem to resist getting sweaty gunk on them (which was an annoying issue with Razer mice - crusty nasty stuff accumulated so quickly on those things).
-- Weights --
I LOVE the way the adjustable weights are implemented on this mouse. The lid to get to the weights is magnetized, so they are easy to get to (unlike the Roccat Kone XTD mouse, with which it's a battle every time you want to adjust the weights...). You can arrange the weights in a variety of formations so you can really customize the mouse to make it YOURS. After some experimentation, I decided that I prefer my mouse with a bit of heft, but with the weight towards the butt of the mouse so that my palm takes care of the heavier pushing. Other weight formations felt alright, too, but this was ultimately what I decided felt the best to me. In my experience, mice with adjustable weights can feel awkward when only some of the weights are on, which is disappointing -- the Roccat Kone XTD mouse, in particular, was only useable with the weights either all in or all out, so I appreciate the level of customizeablity the G502 offers.
-- Software --
The Logitech gaming software is the best I've used. It is extremely fast; writing profiles to a mouse is instant, and it has never crashed on me once yet. This is a vast improvement over the Roccat and Razer peripheral softwares -- the Roccat Software crashed on me multiple times, and writing new settings to the mouse takes like 30 seconds. The Razer software, in my experience is buggy, crashes frequently, and also has a delay when writing settings to a mouse. Logitech's software is flawless, and I really appreciate the level of polish on their software.
-- G-Shift --
The Logitech software sports a features called G-Shift. It allows you to set a mouse button to act as a 'shift key' for the mouse; when that button is held down, the other buttons have a different function, and the DPI or sensitivity of the mouse can be temporarily shifted as well (think - sniper mode). This feature is very easy to set up and a joy to use. I have it set so that when my G-Shift button is held down, the middle click play/pauses music, and the left and right scroll buttons seek tracks back and forward. There are a lot of creative ways to use this feature, and I'm excited that Logitech implemented this system in an elegant manner.
-- Surface Tuning --
The Logitech software features surface tuning - it allows you to calibrate your mouse to work best with the mousing surface you use. It is easy to use - you turn on the software, hold down a mousebutton, and move your mouse in a figure 8 for a short while, and the software does the rest. I initially thought this was a marketing gimmick, but it REALLY does make a difference. I calibrated on a cloth mousemat (the Razer Kabuto) that usually doesn't track too well; after tuning the G502 with this mousepad, it tracked flawlessly, much better than the Razer Mamba that is in the same brand of peripherals! However, when I used this tuned setting on another mouse pad, the tracking was weird and super jumpy. This confirms that this feature does do something.
The tuning didn't make as significant of a difference on a hard gaming mouse pad.
-- Lighting --
Lighting for this mouse is very simple, which is how I prefer it -- the G logo on the mouse is the only thing that lights up. This can be customized to be made dimmer or brighter and have a breathing effect. Simple.
-- Cord --
This mouse has the best cord I've seen on a mouse - it is braided and feels very durable, but is still flexible. It comes packaged in a loose circle, so there are no kinks in the wires out of the box. It also comes with a handy velcro fastener that can be used to keep the cable together - a nice touch that I appreciate.
-- Looks --
This is the only aspect of the mouse I have any *minor* complaints about... it looks kind of uglyish and something out of the future. And that's the best I can do to fault this fantastic mouse.
-- OVERALL --
Best mouse at any price. I think it's a steal at less than <Rs 5000, which is much less than I paid for my Razer Mamba that I found to be inferior in many ways. I highly recommend you give the Logitech G502 Proteus Core a shot - it could be everything you'll ever need from a mouse.
On to the review!
The packaging is nice, and the first time I held the product, I was pretty much satisfied, as it was in line with what I'd come to expect from this brand over my years of patronage to them.
I've, till date, bought the following mice from them:
* A cheap 500 buck mouse that used to come with their Multimedia combo pack. Bought three of the optical ones over the course of 5 years. Amazing.
* A G400 (the original, successor to the then-legendary MX-518), lasted me flawlessly for 3 years until I gave it away.
* A G400s, which I used for another 2 years until I lost them at a LAN party.
This is my 8th or 9th mouse, not counting the ones with the ball sensors in the early 2000s. Logitech has had a lineage, and I've been a customer for quite a few years.
The build quality was nice (Maybe they could've reduced the amount of shiny plastic, perhaps), and the clicks felt nice and solid.
Pros:
* Top-notch, professionally acclaimed sensor. This thing never fails to track anything. Never stutters, never malfunctions.
* Solid clicks, not too hard like some of the older mice. I've never had a Logitech mouse double-click on me, maybe your mileage will vary?
* The scroll wheel. You can disengage the wheel to make it spin freely, or lock it in place and feel the solid metal wheel click at each individual position as you scroll.
* The customizable weights were a nice touch, although I like my mice light.
* Grippy texture for the rubberised grips on the sides, which don't actually fade with time. Comfortable to hold, but preferential.
Cons:
* The braided cord and reinforced connection to the mouse is nice, but it doesn't straighten out like a DeathAdder's does. Might want to work on that, Logitech.
* Too. Many. Buttons. Can we get a 5 button version for those that DON'T want all the buttons in the world, please? Really easy to disable via the software, but still. It's way too easy to hit the front or back buttons (Which I occasionally use while browsing).
* The compartment that holds the weights in the plastic case they come in, hold on to them for dear life. Really tough to get out.
* The grip style is not for palm-based gamers. If you use a claw-style or a fingertip-style grip, you're golden. Do not buy if you're a palm-grip kind of gamer. Seriously, your hands will cramp.
All of these cons were mostly nitpicks, and you might have different preferences. But hey, this is my opinion, so there's my two cents.
I will, as always, be editing this review in case I face any issues down the road.
Till date, no issues faced with this mouse whatsoever. It ticks all the right boxes for me to buy them as soon as I could. I put my DA2013 into storage to use these.
