UPDATE: I don't use it for mouse and keyboard gaming. I tried it for a while and it was simply too easy. I felt bad playing with it. It's too easy to play with, and I didn't want to have to wonder if my skill was based on it. I want to earn my victories fair and square. Now, I only use it to use my Xbox One controller on a Ps4.
First things first-- why I bought this thing, so nobody will come along and bash the heck out of me for "cheating."
I have a Playstation 4, an Xbox One S, and a gaming PC. I intend to fully switch to PC soon enough but right now I am sticking with Xbox and Playstation because most of my buddies play one or the other. The big question that everyone always throws out-- but isn't it cheating? Doesn't it make you better than everyone else?
The short answer-- no. I'm a very good player on Xbox. I've played Xbox my whole life and I usually get three to four golds in Overwatch during a competitive game. While some characters I played better on (for instance, Soldier 76), most of the others I didn't see any improvement in. The mouse is simply more stable than a controller. It doesn't make you better. I like it more to shoot off the first shot, but it's still kinda hard to follow someone while shooting. My tracer, for instance, is absolute garbage with the Xim4. My Widowmaker, the character everyone declares is the best ever with this, has not improved. I've just never been a good snniper, though my Hanzo is decent (not as good as my console Hanzo. I'm a Hanzo main).
Playstation is where I saw most of the improvement. I have owned three Ps4s in my life and sold all of them because of the Dualshock controller. I dunno why. It's just not my thing. It has a smaller frame than the X1 controller and seems more prone to break. I'm not fond of the way it's put together in general and I'm actually trash with it. I have Battlefield 4 for Ps4 and tried it with just using the Dualshock. I gave up after I was killed like six times without a kill of my own. Then I tried it with the Xim and got roughly a 1.0 KD. I wasn't glorious. I wasn't spectacular. I wasn't cheating. I didn't have a huge leg up on anyone. Time after time after time, I got killed by someone who was probably using a Dualshock. I just prefer it to using the Dualshock because I can play all three systems with one controller to make life easier.
SETTINGS
I went through all the online videos that Xim posts to set it all up first, but once I had a config down (it's really quite easy once you figure it out) I got to adjust everything and learn what controls that I liked. Mostly, I didn't change anything. All that I had to do was adjust sensitivity from I think 20 to 180. I am a person that enjoys high sensitivity. Brief warning-- some games will work better if you fire up the settings and change in-game settings to the highest sensitivity first. Some games like Overwatch will require you to change a variety of things first. Don't worry, it's very simple. Just follow the directions in the app and you'll be fine. I'm no very techy and I had it done in two minutes.
ERROR
Okay, there was a significant error that I came across. It. Didn't. Work. Whenever I plugged it in, it kept flashing pink/purple. Although I had loaded up the config and all the devices were showing that they were powered on, I couldn't get a signal to connect and work. Though they were on, every time I pushed a button on the keyboard or touched the mouse key, the Xim flashed pink or purple. I'm going to save you an eternity of trouble and tell you what the issue is: you're drawing too much power. For both Ps4 and Xbox One S (I can't speak for any other system), go to your console settings and turn off vibration on your controller. In Ps4, make sure to turn off the speaker and dim the light. If you do that, the power drawing will go down and your system will work perfectly!
Now, one annoyance-- it doesn't work with a microphone connected to the controller. We're going back to what we just talked about. There's just not enough juice to handle a mic as well, so you're going to need to get a USB mic and plug it into your console. Easy peasey. There is, as near as I can tell, no way to get around that.
So here's the big question of the hour-- buy it? Don't buy it? Well, I bought it because I have three different systems and I wanted to be able to play with one thing on all of them. It's doing a fantastic job for me. Most people, however, aren't going to be interested in this system for that. They want it to dominate their opponents and get a leg up on the competition. For those of you out there, ignoring the possible cheating aspect and that the Xim might be outlawed soon enough when they figure out how to detect it, you'll get a mild step up. You won't suddenly be a video game god and you won't be able to beat a seasoned controller user right off the bat. Battlefield 4 is where it's supposed to shine its brightest. I tried it. I barely got a 1.0 KD on a good game. For comparisons sake, in Overwatch, it's not unusual for me to 6 or 7 to 1 KD. I don't think anyone will be reporting me to cheating or this or that, but I have had plenty of people report me for cheating when I was just using a controller. People don't like to be beaten by a "skill" character like a sniper, so they'll blame it on something. I've been reported probably a couple dozen times for using aimbot or mouse and keyboard when I was just using the trusty controller.
So, who would win? If there was two of me and one person had a controller and the other had a keyboard and mouse, who would win a 1V1?
It all depends. On Overwatch, it would be a strong tossup. If I was playing Tracer, the Controller Me would win. If I was playing Soldier 76, the MC ME would win.
In Battlefield 4, if I was playing on Ps4, the keyboard version would obliterate the controller version. I'm just God-awful with the Dualshock. I haven't played on Xbox in so long that I couldn't tell you reliably which I play better with.
In Fortnite, it would be close and it certainly would be much closer than it was a week ago, but the controller version would win because of the building aspect. Aim is much easier on Fortnite but the rest of the stuff isn't too intuitive, so you're going to need to play around for a while to figure it out. I'm a decent player in it as well. I've been a John Wick (Reaper) for a while. Last night I got two solos wins in a row with my controller. When I played with MC, everything was a little bit behind. Not laggy, but I just wasn't able to think that quickly with a MC yet. You have to be able to react quickly to do anything in that game. In long expanses with long-range firefighting, the MC won out. In close-quarters battle, the controller proved better. I've given up trying to play Fortnite with a MC for now.
Beware that there are a crap ton of wires and that it's something of a pain to play with... and that I still play with it regardless. I have not seen any massive improvements in my game style in the games that I am good at already. I'm about level 600 in Overwatch and the difference is "meh." I'm a beautiful level 4 in Battlefield 4 and the difference is staggering, but that's mostly because I can't function with the Dualshocks.
The app works remarkably well. I expected it to be trash. Not so! It connects easily and works just peachy. You can make real-time adjustments, which is nice even though I have only changed the sensitivity and a few button bindings.
I didn't just use a mouse and keyboard because that wasn't the only reason I bought it. I also bought it to use my Xbox One controller on my PS4, and it works very well.
For clarification on what I am using to know if it is compatible, I'll include a link to everything I'm using for my setup. There's no lag whatsoever.

Keyboard: Some wired keyboard I found laying around
Regular HDMI cable, 7.2 surround. Drop a comment if you're more curious and I'll try to get back to you to clarify anything.
The only things I would note are:
1) Make sure you update the firmware on the device before playing. If you don't, there might be some odd issues that come up. To do this, you'll need to connect the XIM4 to your pc with the provided cable. It's not noted in the instructions how to do this - So, first off, you will need to download the flash tool from ([...]). it doesn't install, it's a direct .exe that you open. Then, open this flash tool. Now to connect the XIM4 to the PC - to do this you'll connect the device into a usb while holding down the "P" button on the back. Seriously, hold it down WHILE plugging it in. This puts the XIM4 into pc connection mode (indicated by solid blue lights). Now, simply click update firmware on the flash tool and it will install and tell you when its done to disconnect the device. (ALSO make sure you have the up to date version of the XIM4 manager on your phone or tablet to match this).
2) In order for this device to actually work, you need to have a USB to Micro USB cable connecting your xbox controller to the xim4 - one that you might have from a phone charger or something. This isn't really noted well in the instructions, but needs to be done for everything to work. Make sure your headphone etc are plugged in and the controller is on before connecting. Then once the xim4 is plugged in and running, with your keyboard and mouse, plug in the controller into the back. see the manual for which ports to use for what device.
3) Have your phone or pc handy to connect to the XIM4 via bluetooth. The instructions do a great job running you through the connection steps, so follow them and you'll be good to go. Just have this device handy as you'll probably be tweaking it a lot while you first start playing.
4) Last but not least make sure your mouse is at least 500mhz - 1000mhz pulling rate. You can google this about your mouse to see what yours is, though most cable gaming mice are 1000mhz. I note this because I use a wireless Logitech G602 gaming mouse and I didn't realize that I had the eco switch set to on (meaning I was only getting 125Mhz) and it was a big difference when I realized this and changed the rate. With a 500+ pulling rate you're going to get amazing feel. Anything less and you'll feel a bit too much mouse acceleration and artificial feel. DPI doesn't have a drastic effect, so anything 800 - 2000 will be just fine - don't over analyze the dpi for this, it won't make much difference.
Anyway, to sum this up, this device is fantastic and everything I was hoping it would be. I've had previous keyboard/mouse converters for my old 360 and they sucked - really making it a handicap if anything. If you wondering if the price is worth it? IMO YES - I'm actually playing just like I would on my PC and I'm totally excited every time I get a chance to game now.
Top reviews from other countries
Works great with a PS4 and a PS nav controller. Bought this for RB6 Siege and BF1 fps. Was looking between this and TAC Pro. So happy I have chosen this device. Love the programming interface and flexibility. Making changes in game and on the fly from your phone is the best way!
Will note to read the instructions clearly for setup and bootup sequences.
Came with latest firmware installed. Finally I can game like in my PC days. So far the accuracy is great. I feel no lag, and the aim is very precise.
Mouse I am using is a Logitech 500s. Going to upgrade to a g900 soon.
Mein Feedback als PS4 Gamer - es ist der Hammer!
Nach ca. 50 Spielstunden mit der XIM4 möchte ich in keiner Sekunde an der Console darauf verzichten.
Die XIM4 Community im Netz liefert eine Anleitung für alle wichtigen Bereiche beim Setup, so findet man im englisch- sowie deutschsprachigen eine Antwort auf alle wichtigen Punkte: Firmwareupdate; XIM Manager App; Erfahrungswerte und Einstellungstips;
If your buying this product you will also need a mouse and keyboard, there's this misguided conception that you need a high DPI mouse to get the most out of this product - let me clear that up now and say its relative to your screen i.e. a small screen means a low DPI mouse and vise versa. If your playing on a TV it wont be more than 2000px so you can use a 2500 2GHZ mouse and that'll be the same as a 10,000DPI mouse. My preference is wireless keyboards and mice because the XIM forces your controller to be attached to the Playstation with a wire, more wires just create more clutter.
A word of notice
----------------------
One of the main issues your faced with on the XIM4 is getting a really smooth accurate snap - from the mouse, you can use an inverted bezier curve via the XIM4 app - to achieve a higher output velocity with minimal physical mouse movement. Alternatively for a game like Battlefield 1 I have set my XIM sensitivity to around 40 for hip + aim down the sight and set the mouse DPI to 2400. This enables extremely accurate pinpoint sniping (see attached video) however it does mean if an enemy is within 20 feet of you and you aim down the sight your sensitivity will be too low to hit them, this is another perfect example of why this product does not match a PC gaming environment. if you set the sensitivity higher to compensate you'll be able to hit people closer sure - but people further away you won't be able to target. Trying to hit people over a mile away you simply wont be able to target them. For games like call of duty where the maps are all the same size roughly (small) this wont be a problem but if your playing battlefield where the maps are bigger you'll have to play in the same play style throughout.
What you need to know before buying
You will need to be fairly savvy in order to set up this product up, you'll also need a smart phone (IOS/Android) in order to configure the device during testing. You'll have to spent a good couple of hours maybe longer setting up the game up to get it to the state it needs to be. The instructions that come with the adapter miss out a step. Step 7 mentions plugging the controller into the adapter but it misses out the part plugging the USB into the Playstation, yet I see people on here claiming the instructions are perfect... speechless.
- Works with wireless mouse/keyboard
- Works with wired mice/keyboard
- PS4/Xbox360 needs always be connected to the controller
- Your phone needs to load the game profile via the app
- The initial set up takes a little while.
Pros
-------
- Allows for wireless mice/keyboards (Bluetooth)
- An improvement from the earlier Eagle Eye adapter
- Good forum for support/firmware
- Applications available IOS/Android/PC/Mac
- Does improve aiming accuracy
- Allows for separate settings to be set for hip fire/ aim down sight fire
- Adjusting the game is very fast because of the Bluetooth technology and mobile apps connection.
- Ability to use ballistic curves for refined mouse accuracy
Cons
---------
- Quite costly but worth it if you play competitively
- Can not use audio output via the PS4 controller
- Limited to 16 profiles per game
- Takes a while to set up with issues on Bluetooth pairing
My set up is as follows.
- VicTsing 2.4G Wireless Optical Mouse (800/1200/1600/2000/2400
- TrustClassicline Wired USB Keyboard for PC
Battlefield 1 - ADS = 30 (Mouse), Hip (30)
I thought the video below would be useful to buyers because this showcases the XIM4 in action using the mouse via in-synch with game play. footage. This allows you to see that despite the motion of the crosshair being smooth from a distance the physical movement of the mouse is much greater than average. This is because the smoothness needed for long distance aiming is achieved from lower sensitivity but higher DPI relative to 3200px screen size. To better explain this if you watch near the end of the video you will see where enemies come closer the ability to move because harder.
Overall i would thoroughly recommend this product whilst its not like gaming on the PC it does give you a lot of control, if you spend a bit of time learning about what's needed and read up on the forums you can significantly improve your accuracy putting you at a distinct advantage to your enemies.
