HyperX Headset / / / Perspective from new PC user
Here's my experience with the HyperX Revolver S on PC:I'm not much of an audiophile as others nor have I had many experiences with mics, but when I got the headset in the mail and set it up (Note this was about a year ago) I was happy with it as the sound quality and the noise cancellation for the mic were both good. They allowed me to be fully concentrated while gaming and the ear cushions were comfortable as well. As far as the mute and surround sound buttons go, I don't use them much but they seem to be working properly. The detachable mic was pretty useful especially when you still want to listen to something but you're stopping to eat or just don't want it to be on. Let it be known that the main reason for me buying this headset was because I tried it out first at a friend's house and I liked it so I definitely wouldn't have got this if I hadn't thought that it worked great. Only problem at this time was the sound quality of the mic, as all my friends in discord thought it was awfully loud and annoying, described as an "Xbox mic" compared to the exact same mic my friend had if you get what I'm trying to say, although that only may be the one I got and not typical. I decided to ignore it because to return an item because of such a small thing seemed petty. The real problem came a couple months after usage. My headset audio stopped working. At first, I thought it was some kind of problem with my computer audio or the slider on the headset, but it wasn't and my headset had just stopped working. The mic still worked, but obviously, if you can't hear whats the point of even talking. This problem was "fixed" time and time again by me playing with the USB and the cable connecting to the audio control box but this process extremely annoying and time consuming that it made me want to get a new headset altogether. But, the problems didn't stop there. Little side note, back when I played on console, I used to break headsets a lot through usage and anger, but when I built my PC I decided that I wouldn't do anything like that especially since PC gaming is so expensive and all and I had been pretty delicate when handling this mic save the once in a blue moon disconnection from the Audio control box by getting up too fast. Another problem I had with the headset was the constant shocks to my ear when I stood up or even moved in my chair. This was super irritating since I unfortunately have the habit of not sitting completely still while i'm playing or doing anything for that matter. I searched up the reason for this and it said it was due to "dry air and low humidity" or static charge and to be honest i'm not completely sure which one is my issue here, but its still something to be wary about I guess. As of right now, the shocks have somewhat gone away so it may just be a regional/seasonal thing. But, even now the audio for my headset sometimes just decides to not work and it can take anywhere from 10 minutes to a day or two to fix it so the problem is still evident. Now, is it worth the buy? Let me just say that as a somewhat casual somewhat competitive gamer with no experience concerning high end audio equipment and the like, the audio for this headset works just fine and I can hear footsteps, bullets, etc. wonderfully and it does not in anyway hinder my playing. I usually don't get static shocks while playing anymore but who knows if that will change in the future. Quality of the mic in my opinion isn't anything great so you might as well get an external mic unless you couldn't care less about how others hear you. The headset fits comfortably, the framing adjusts around your head, and the ear cushions look like they could fit the majority of people. I personally would not buy this headset again if I could but for people searching for gaming headsets to use, this one isn't bad. Its actually quite good despite my complications with it and I really don't think everyone has had the same experiences as me. Was it the way I used it? Was it a small defect that only managed to work its way to my headset? I'm not too sure, but if it was, then if possible I would like to return it for a better one and change my review up a bit. This was my experience with the HyperX Cloud Revolver S gaming headset.
