This thing weighs nearly 5 lbs and I was concerned about it sagging inside the case, but it turns out that my son's MSI Computer X99A GAMING PRO CARBON ATX Motherboards has metal PCIe slots so the weight isn't a problem at all. This card is also very thick (takes 2.5 slots) because of the way the fans are stacked on top of one another. The middle fan is positioned lower with the other two raised slightly above it. This is Gigabyte's new cooling solution that provides better airflow through the card and it must work because the highest temperature I've seen during several hours of gaming (Fallout 4, DooM, Battlefield 1, etc.) is 71C. And that was on a hot day when the room temperature was about 75F. The card is also very stable and we haven't experienced any crashes as others have reported. When my son plays BF1 it never goes above 59C even though the card is running at 1,974 MHz or higher. I've seen it go as high as 1,990 MHz thanks to GPU Boost. I remember reading somewhere that the old GTX 1080's could be clocked higher than the 1080 Ti, but I really don't see much difference between the two.
The reason we bought this card is to improve the VR gaming experience on our HTC VIVE - Virtual Reality System which we've owned since Christmas. Until now we've had a GTX 980 Ti running the Vive and consequently we've been unable to max out the graphics settings in many of our VR games because the 980 Ti just wasn't up to the task. This new 1080 Ti makes a huge difference in the playability of our VR games. In particular, we've been able to max out the graphics quality settings on games like Subnautica and Vanishing Realms. This card handles these games extremely well and Subnautica, in particular, almost looks like a different game with the graphics quality turned up and zero lag.
I'm rarely in the market for a new graphics card, but when I do buy a new one I try to get the best thing available because it must last at least a couple of years before I'll be replacing it. I held off on buying a GTX 1080 last year because I didn't feel that it was a big enough performance boost over my old GTX 980 Ti. Now, I'm glad I waited for the 1080 Ti because the performance blows away both the GTX 980 Ti AND the GTX 1080.
If you're looking for a significant performance boost over a GTX 1080 or GTX 980 Ti at a reasonable price, look no further than this card. The extra $30 - $50 cost may be the best money you'll ever spend on computer hardware.
We made fan curves and the temps stay around 38c-58c while gaming depending on load and the cards don't get that loud at all unless you game in silence I guess lol (65f ambeint temp). If your case doesn't have good airflow or if your PC is in a hot room the temps will be higher.
We cranked up the voltage, power and temp limits and OCed the cards as much as we could. So far every card hits 2062.5mhz on the core and won't go any higher, at least not with the substantial memory OCs we're running. I was able to overclock my memory to 12532mhz (making a bandwidth of 551.6gbps, about 14% higher than stock) with the core at 2062.5mhz and it's stable and gets better benchmark scores compared to lowering my memory clock. My friends were able to reach 12332mhz on their memory with 2062.5mhz core. These cards have really great memory chips.
My buddy and my brother have relatively basic motherboards with no PCIE bracing and these cards hardly sag at all! They bought $17 brackets to make sure they don't ever sag. This gpu doesn't sag in my x99 Asus Rampage 10 motherboard.
Use MSI afterburner to overclock. MSI Afterburner is completely stable and works great. You will have to enable voltage control by downloading a wildcard.zip file and replacing the file in MSI afterburners main directory if you want to use it. You can find the file on Google easily. Aorus Graphics Engine is buggy and unusable for OCing on my PC. I just use AGE to change the LEDs. AGE will crash when opening a custom fan curve that has too many points. Even resetting the fan curve doesn't fix the crash, you have to reinstall AGE. AGE will also randomly change your overclock profile settings to random values every time you open it or completely delete your profiles altogether. AGE may work fine for you though, so feel free to try it first.

Still, it works well, and the 1080 ti is still a powerhouse of a card. If you already have a custom watercooling loop in your PC, this makes a great addition.
The fans on the unit are almost completely silent even at full speed are not very audible at all. Considering this card is capable of pulling 350w when let loose im fairly impressed that the fans can keep up. The only cards I had that overclocked and performed better than these is my 1080TI FTW3 Hybrid card.
If you looking for the ultimate in air cooled 1080TI's and you have the space. This is for you. With only on caveat being that if you want to SLi these cards the top card will choke badly. I had 2 in SLI and the bottom card under full load was a cool 56C while the top card was in the 84C range. So make sure you have good airflow in those cases.
