    Alexa won’t work while camera is recording!
    Listen up people because I’m a tech guy and this is an honest review that is not mean spirited like some of the angry comments I’ve seen on here! The problem apparently is Garmin is NOT Amazon but trying to put out a product with the quality of an Amazon Echo but poorly lacking in technical ability to that of a actual Amazon Echo! Yes, the Echo works BUT WILL NOT WORK WHEN THE CAMERA IS RECORDING WHICH IS ALL THE TIME IF YOUR DRIVING! I really had high hopes for this Alexa in my car because I have 6 Echo devices in my extremely large home and have recommended many Echo devices to friends because my whole house is automated with Echo devices from robot vacuums to security cameras, but this Alexa by Garmin just doesn’t live up to the standards of a real Echo from Amazon! You would of thought that Garmin would mention something as IMPORTANT AS WHEN THE CAMERA IS RECORDING THE ALEXA GOES COMPLETELY SILENT! I can only guess that in Garmin's rush to sell a bazillion units and make millions of dollars they rushed this product out on research and development straight to the market before getting all the kinks and bugs worked out of it and guys, big sigh, I’m just tired of being a Guinea pig producer tester for robot vacuum companies, elec light switch companies and now Alexa in the car companies/dreamers which I really feel is an excellent concept if for nothing more than the companionship while driving but when the REC alert came on Alexa went into a coma and that was it and trust me I set it up exactly per instructions! I’m thinking about buying the Alexa without the camera because I really do love Echos more than most obviously but cmon guys, you couldn’t figure out how to make Alexa work while the device is recording which is suppose to be constantly while driving! Garmin you knew better than to put this product out with this design flaw but I guess in your rush to make big money some corporate exec said sell it like it is and that’s JUST DUMB! I hope you either fire that idiot or move him to the mailroom because I’m sure your sick of seeing all these terrible reviews from customers and worse getting all these car Alexa units returned to you that now must be repackaged and whiped clean to resell! When you guys can make the Alexa work when the camera is recording I will buy one but until then I’ll just uses the little Alexa enabled USB charger I bought from Ankler that actually works most of the time! And since we’re talking design of thos unit, why can’t you either make the charger port reversible or put another on the other side facing the other down direction so people can have more choices in placement on their windshield without the electrical wire sticking straight up in the air if placed on the drivers side windshield just a few inches above the dash! And honestly the unit could be bigger no one would mind because we already are accustomed to the big Echos in our homes so designing it down and squeezing all that tech into a 1/2 Dollar size circle ( Minimization ) was really just unnecessary because frankly it was really kinda too small in my opinion! And why not put a decent speaker actually in the unit with a lot of volume to overcome road noises because let’s face it guys most people do not have Bluetooth into their car stereos unless it’s a newer car like mine which I can tell my home Echo to lock my car doors and it will but most people don’t have that or Bluetooth and don’t want to have to run an 1/8th jack to their AUX speaker input if they even have one which older cars don’t! So back to the drawing board guys and you better get it right next time before Amazon really does come out with a car Echo that really does work and then your screwed because you’ve lost not only our credibility Garmin but also failed to capture this new market which is obviously what you wanted to do! Hey I get it Garmin you guys took a beating on people no longer buying your GPS units ( I have 3 ) because now smart phone guide drivers now and update automatically so I’m sure a few Garmin execs were out standing on a ledge when the bees broke that smartphone would also offer satellite navigation too so I’m sure you guys a Garmin have had it pretty rough for the last decade to say the least! But that’s no excuse to rush a product to market before all the bugs are worked out! Now if Garmin reads this and says he buddy the Alexa does work when the camera recording then I obviously got a bad unit and I will be happy to write a retraction! But thos is an honest review of you Garmin Alexa enabled car camera unit and I have to say I was beyond disappointed when the REC alert came on and the Alexa would no longer take any commanders at all! Also the menu for this unit is just awful too because it will not allow you to even go and stop the recording to get the Alexa back and the unit no longer took voice commands so I had to unplug it to try to go back to beginning! For Gods sake Garmin get a better app designer than whoever your using now because I’ve seen weather apps in third world countries that had more features than your control app for this Garmin/Alexa car camera! So that’s my review! My advice is just wait 6 more months or so and someone will come out with a car camera with Alexa that actually works without all the glitches and bugs and primitive menu in the App Store! Garmin, whoever you got writing the apps for this thing you need to fire and get someone else because a high school kid could write a better app in his basement than the limited features you have now in the App Store for this thing! I never even saw the numbers 1080p or other choices, it’s just as plain as white bread the menu for this Garmin Alexa car camera and it will NOT allow you to get to certain area of the app easily so very strange App design and NOT user friendly! So keep working on it Garmin and I really do hope you get it right soon because I’d love to put these cameras in all my cars and be able to recommend it to friends and business associates! Word of mouth is the best advertising there is and these Amazon reviews are killing you so just step back, take a breath and fix the darn thing and write a better app for it and then will work out like you dreamed of it not to late! You just need some real tech guys to come in and polish this things software up and do it quick before you get a bad name! So that’s my opinion and it ought to be yours! Keep trying Garmin your almost there...but close only counts in hand grenades and horse shoes! Or didn’t you know that? 😉

    What more could you want for a small device that does so many features. If you are 100 percent dependent on your gps that actually shows a picture of your location this unit may be not detailed enough for you. It does do a good job for the size of the small screen. It will show and tell you when to turn it does announce street names most of the time but it doesn’t show street names on the very small screen. If you use your gps from time to time for finding your vacation rental or favorite place to eat , or maybe finding that new doctor’s office I think it will be what you are looking for. You can talk to it to ask questions like all other Alexa devices. It will control all your Alexa devices at home also if your devices of course are controlled through Alexa. It will also control nest thermostats so you can make your home warmer or colder before you get home or after you leave for the day. That feature alone will save you $$ if you remember to use it. You can also get notified when someone arrives at your home if you have cameras that work through Alexa. For a device that is the size of a nickel and about 2 inches long that is quite amazing. I have had my garmin for about three years now and it is still working fine. The only issue that I have is that sometimes when the garmin speak plus and my phone tries to connect to the Bluetooth in the car it will not always connect to the car’s speakers. It has it’s own speaker but it is very small and not as loud as the car’s speakers. Most of the time unplugging the garmin and restarting it corrects the issue. Really it is not the devices fault because only one Bluetooth device is supposed to be hooked up at a time. It uses the garmin drive app so most of the time it allows the phone to connect with the garmin speak plus through the app. I really wish Garmin still made it. I understand that newer cars usually now have gps and so does your phone but it is still a nice device to have especially if you have a older vehicle that doesn’t have all the latest features and you know how hot your phone battery gets when you are using gps, & talking on the phone at the same time, and we won’t even mention the dead spots that you experience with your cell phone from time to time.

    Update: Couldn't take it anymore and had to return it. I tried to love it but couldn't.

    I love tech stuff and I wanted this to work like it is supposed to so bad. When I first got this and set it up in my truck exactly how I wanted it, it was awesome. Then about 2 weeks later it just stopped connecting correctly and now it is constant issues. There was no update or changes to my Galaxy S10+ phone or the Drive app so Im not sure what happened. Now every time I start the unit, it takes a couple minutes to connect instead of seconds. The camera asks for me to turn on the app every time but its already on. When it finally connects its 50/50 whether I can hear or even use Alexa. I have to unplug it and plug it back in to try and get it to work correctly. Resetting everything on the unit, the app and my bluetooth settings did nothing. The camera part of this works ok but some of my videos have the wrong dates which could be a real problem if I needed it in court. Night time videos suck but Day time videos are very clear. I like the lane assist and front sensor since my truck doesnt have those. It does tell me every morning before the sun is up that my camera is misaligned but it isnt, its just dark. Being so hit or miss on working correctly, I would NEVER EVER trust this as my navigation. Use a map app like google or waze to be safe. I didnt get this unit for navigation anyway. I wanted the dash cam with alexa and I get that some times. I got this on sale but it still wasnt worth the money. Im really hoping an update comes out to miraculously fix everything and get it back to how it was in the first 2 weeks. Until then, its just a normal dash cam that aggravates me.

    Ok make no mistake about this device, its more than just a smart cam and more than an Alexa Dot. This device records video just like a Garmin Cam does and without having to connect your phone and use the app. If you are looking for a dash cam this one works and its nicer looking than the other dash Cams. This device can be hard wired in by putting a outlet behind your dash and using that receptacle. The parking adaptor and cable does not work well with this device. If you are looking for an Alexa Dot for your car this works well and then some. in addition to the nice looking device, good dash cam and Alexa device it also has GPS app on your phone that shows on the back of this device so you can see it while driving. Additionally this also can act as a Bluetooth speaker that I find reflects sound of the from window pretty well. I will say that the video quality is just ok, I found times its hard to read license places. this device also has memory card errors a lot but I just ignore them and it does not seem to have any issues with the card. The device will also tell you to open your app on your phone every once and a while, you need to have the phone connected or Alexa will not work. you can say "Alexa take me home" and it will give you directions home if you have it connected and set in the Alexa app and Garmin app. you can also ask Alexa for directions to places while you are driving. "Alexa turn on the lights at home and open the garage door" I bought one for all our cars as this little device is perfect to protect my family from wrong doings out there. It also records voice if you want it to. Its great for my college kid with a car that does not have Bluetooth and I sleep well knowing if anything happens we will have proof which could save him from wrong doing. I did find that the camera has a hard time connecting to multiple phones apps for each family member so I only connect to one, our primary vehicles one per person.

    This tiny little device is really great and does so much , i installed it in my sons 2015 camaro as i like that its bery simple and would not distract him , it will let you know if you are following to close or going out of your lane or if at a light and teaffic moves it will let you know if tour head is down so you do not get honked at .     La única forma de usarlo fue creando una cuenta en EU, pero toda mi configuración adicional de Alexa Home no funciona con este dispositivo.
    No se puede cambiar de idioma, solo habla en Inglés.
