TLDR: This is an okay water proof action camera for the value (you might be able to find better), but some of the advertised features for it are pretty misleading.EDIT 1: Unfortunately, the video quality that amazon is showing doesn't represent what it actually looks like (actual quality is better)EDIT 2: I bumped it up a star because the seller got back offering to refund the product, so they are at least active with customer service.I do hobby photography with a DSLR camera (Nikon D3400), and wanted to be able to take pictures underwater during a trip to the Dominican Republic. So I was in the market for a relatively basic and inexpensive underwater camera, and while exploring found a few different action cameras in the ~$50 price range that looked like they would fulfill my need. This one stuck out to me because it had a range of features including being waterproof up to 30m, has 4K video, 16MP photos, 4X zoom, and a wireless remote control remote.Here’s what I found out after using it during my vacation.PROS:• Above all else, it successfully allowed me to take pictures and video while scuba diving and snorkeling. The camera performed best underwater for me, probably in large part due to the reduced shake and also ideal lighting conditions for the camera• The battery life worked as advertised, and I was happy with the duration between needing to replace the batteries.• The menu was pretty intuitive to go through and adjust modes.CONS:• 4K VIDEO: While technically 4K (in file size), it's not true 4K quality. This was probably the most irritating feature included in the action camera, because it seemed like it was added solely to be used as a feature selling point, but adds absolutely nothing to the camera. In fact, after some testing, I decided that the 1080p resolution video looked better than the 4k resolution. So, there is basically no use for the 4K video besides filling up your storage space.• 16MP Photos: Similarly, the pictures that the camera takes can be as high as 16MP, but a clear 1080p will look just as good (if not better) than the best photos you can take with this camera. I know from using my DSLR camera that a high MP count can be nice because it can allow you to crop photos without a noticeable decrease in quality of the image. But you can’t really do that with even the 16MP pictures that this action camera takes because the quality is low enough that as soon as you start zooming in you can see the decrease in quality. For comparison, a 1080p picture is 2.1MP. So again, you might as well use a lower MP setting when using the camera, because the quality of the image won’t be any worse and you’ll just be saving storage space.• Lossy compression: There is an odd pattern that occasionally popped up on the sides of both pictures and video. Judging from the pattern, my best guess is that it is an artifact of the lossy compression algorithm that the action camera uses when saving the videos and photos(?). See some of my photos and video for examples.• 4X Zoom: The “zoom” feature of the action camera only crops the photo for you, and like explained above, you can’t really crop photos without seeing a noticeable decrease in image quality. So another useless feature.• The camera makes a noise when turning on, off, and also when taking pictures. I found no option to mute this in the menu.• There is no camera stabilization (not a surprise given the price range), but it does make it more difficult to take clear pictures and video. This is less of a problem underwater.So why do I give it 2 stars? I give it a solid OK in value; I understand that this only costs $50, so I don’t expect a Go Pro quality action camera, and it fulfilled my basic need of being able to take photos underwater. The main reason I gave it 2 stars is because I found the described features of this action camera very misleading, and there was a pretty limited range of where I found this camera to work well enough to be acceptable. A large part of the reason that I bought this camera over a few different models in the same price range was because it had a couple extra features (like 4K video, higher MP pictures, zoom…), but while those features technically exist, they’re basically useless. So in the end, even though this camera is probably on par with the other cameras in this price range (which I don’t know, others might be better), I feel rather deceived into purchasing this one.And on that note, another important thing to know is that this supplier is offering extra accessories in return for 5 star reviews for this product, which I expect is in large part the reason why this action camera has so many 5 star reviews.Attached is a sample of the best photos and video that I was able to take with the camera
