Rubberbanding. If the very sight of this word causes you to shrink back in disgust then this game is definitely not for you, at least not yet. Ubisoft claims that this and many other problems will be fixed in future updates but until that happens, know that there is rubberbanding...and it is the absolute worst. For the uninitiated, rubberbanding in racing games refers to AI controlled vehicles that are too far behind you, suddenly speeding up or teleporting closer to you and in most cases passing you. This results in races feeling unfair and car upgrades being pointless. After all, what's the point of upgrading a car to be faster if the AI can automatically keep up or pass you regardless? What's the point of driving well and gaining a lead if the AI is again going to simply fast forward to your position?

As a consequence, this also makes the AI drive unnaturally well. While you're carefully taking racing lines and braking at corners, the AI promptly ignores the laws of physics and drives like it's on rails. On the topic of racing lines, the game currently lacks an option for visible/on-screen racing lines or navigation lines. With such a large map this results in you not knowing where you're suppose to go during races.

Finally, the cutscenes are extremely lackluster. The character models are terrible, the story is completely uninteresting and general dialogue is painfully cringy. Yes it is just a racing game but one with no multiplayer as yet, so a good story can help it from feeling like a chore (which it often does feel like). Speaking personally though, I just really enjoy good stories in my driving games.

Despite these problems, The Crew is still a pretty good game. The world is massive and beautiful and you can literally drive for hours in many different vehicles ranging from cars to planes to boats. As an open world driving/flying game, The Crew 2 is currently the best there is. As a single player or multiplayer racing game, it's just not ready.
