We all know by now that the game does not have a true single player mode, but honestly that isn't a bad thing. The team wanted to focus on making the multiplayer aspect of the game as involved and engrossing as possible and they succeeded by and large.
Overview:
The game is extremely straight forward. The counter-terrorists (CTs) are tasked with defending various predetermined areas in a location/map. The Terrorists (Ts) are tasked with either killing all of the CTs or planting a bomb at one of the predetermined locations - ala Counter-Strike. The game gives you limitless possibilities on how to defend or attack thanks to several factors:
1) The special abilities associated with the "agent" you pick
2) Being able to blow open doors, walls, windows, and floors to make your own paths
3) Breaking small "peep-holes" in to almost any wall to give you a visual vantage point to further your agenda
As I mentioned previously you can pick special "agents" that have special equipment or abilities. You start off the game with no agents unlocked, but as you play the game you earn money to quickly unlock them. You can also use this money to customize your load-outs for these characters by purchasing gun attachments, like a scope or silencer.
Score:
Overall I would give Rainbow Six a solid 8.5/10. The reason it didn't score higher is because the game can be arguably considered "Incomplete" compared to other FPS games that cost $60 and have single player and more modes.
That being said...the micro transactions. Wow. I honestly only bought this because it was on sale as Ubisoft likes to release partially finished games then sell you the rest of the game as DLC. This isn't really any different. First you buy the game, that's reasonable, then after that you see that there were 8 new Operators(that's what they call playable characters) released last year that you can buy all at once for another 20 dollars(or spend a few hundred hours playing the game and saving up credits, or as they call it "Renown"), and then on top of that, there are 8 more Operators being released this year, and if you want to have them as they come out you either pay 5 bucks each or buy the "Season Pass"(this isn't Six Flags, Ubisoft!) to get all 8 for $30. So in the end you pay over $100 for the full game(that doesn't even have a real single player campaign). Maybe I'm just old school(circa NES era), but I feel that if I buy a game, I should get the full game. An expansion pack should add loads more content, not quick access to a few new characters and a few cosmetic items. Then the price they want for the other cosmetic items is just adding insult to injury.
All that aside, I still really like this game. It's very tactical and the community seems to be willing to help and offer advice as long as you also have a respectful attitude. It's the kind of game where once you get into it, you get hooked, and before you know it, whoops! It's 4 in the morning. Just make sure to buy it on sale.
But i made a mistake and bought this for my PS4. didn't look at the tag that it was for PC :D
but still it was in a really good condition
Personal preference, I prefer the PC version, but the game runs really well on either platform. With poor PC ports being the norm these days, that's a welcome sight to see.
Ubisoft seems to be making an effort to have their games run well regardless of platform, as they've advertised for on their new game The Division, and that's a very pro-consumer move. I recommend this game if you're sick of first person shooters, it may revive the genre for you.
