Used in my Unraid server as a cache drive. low capacity for 2023, past life was as my main boot ssd. I haven't been nice to it the temp limits are not accurate as it triggers at 60C which is cold for an m.2 NVME ssd. Refuse to replace it until it dies as it's only caching and typically they will be read-only when they die. The way Unraid handles failures is to act as if there is no cache drive if it fails. I have a 1tb blue as well and have had 0 problems with it as well. since it's still kicking I may get over that 600TBW WD said UP TO. 5/5* would buy again but in 1 or 2 tb

I got an HP Envy 13-AD010NR with Toshiba NVMe 256GB, I wanted to dual boot Windows 10 and MacOS Mojave, I needed a bigger drive, since NVMe only comes in WD Black. I was going to get the Crucial for less money but the performance seems to be inferior also, ordered the WD Black and I'm happy that I did. I didn't want to clone the original hard drive since Windows 10 is readily available on MS website and it's quite simple to create a USB flash installer. All the drivers are readily available on HP website also and I sure don't need all these trial bloat ware from HP. The amazing thing is I didn't have to prep the new NVMe Black at all, just put it in and installed new Windows 10, the only thing is that I had to create a bigger EFI partition for Windows to install since default was only 100MB, not enough for my Clover boot loader with drivers for MacOS Mojave. Everything works right out of the box, real quality drive. The drive is amazingly fast, it installed Windows in less than 15 minutes. The diskspeed test is twice as fast as the old Toshiba drive. Installed the Windows and MacOS in no time, the battery actually lasts 6hr playing videos. Now, since it's new, I've only had it for a few weeks, can't really tell about the reliability of the drive, but I do trust WD drives all these years, yes, this is the new type of drive so bugs and reliability will be different from normal drives.
I do like the drive... glad Amazon couldn't cancel the order when I had second thought after ordering this drive.

This drive is awesome and fast

I have it in a ryzen machine:

    Ryzen 7 1700 (3.6ghz xfr)
    Asus prime x370 pro
    16gb corsair ddr4 3000mhz
    Asus rx580 4gb
    Windows 10

The Asus MB comes with only one m.2 slot that was already occupied by a crucial ssd for the existing system drive. I wanted to upgrade to nvme. I ordered this drive and a cheap PCIe adapter to make a clone. To my pleasant surprise this drive operated at full speed through 4x PCIe lanes through the adapter! The caveat is that this setup cuts the GPU lanes from 16x down to 8x. That being said, there is actually no benchmark or in-game sacrifice of GPU performance. I have decided to leave the adapter and drive right where it is. The Asus MB boots from the PCIe adapter perfectly. The acronis software (downloaded from WD website) makes cloning effortless and even switched the drive letters so all application paths are correct. The crucial ssd will remain in place (in the m.2 slot on the MB) as a dedicated OS backup. Solid hardware, solid software, solid performance. Win, win, win!

I decided to take the plunge and build my own computer from scratch. I am a bit of a review junkie and I agonized over every single part and peripheral that I installed. The WD Black 500GB was rated higher than similar Samsung SDD's on several sites and it did not disappoint. My boot time from a cold start is less than 8 seconds. Restart (complete shut down and reboot) is less than 10 seconds. I decided to install and run a utility to check the actual performance and I was amazed. It was even better than advertised on read speed which is what is used most. To sum it up, I am more than happy with my purchase and I am hoping that WD comes out with a 2TB NVMe SSD soon because I want to install it in my second NVME capable m.2 slot.

    * Apologies for the text format, but since this is such a new build, I do not have any image capture software installed yet.

Can't say I've tryed many NVMe PCIe SSDs to compare, but at least if you are to compare this against a regular sata SSD, the difference is noticeable. Installed same single player games on 2 sata SSDs and this guy, it did manage to lower the loading times. as for windows start up, not sure I could feel the difference since it takes too little time itself even on sata.
All in all it's worth the money if you find it at a discount price since it seems that this one here is mostly on the expensive end, performance wise feels really well.

I ordered this for BlackFriday, I have a HP OMEN AX250, opening the laptop enclosure was the toughest part of the whole process. One of the enclosure screws that was screwed to the motherboard was stuck and the head wore out when i tried to remove it. I had to use a drill bit to remove it. Once that was done the rest of the process was easy. I added this to the existing 7500 HDD.
Boot times improved from 60 seconds to 10 seconds. I can trigger applications instantly after the OS boots up, earlier they application launches were laggy. Shutdown also went down from 60 seconds to 10 seconds. I have also attached the speed test results. Huge improvements in test results.

1.0 out of 5 stars SSD 500GB Western Digital WD Black M.2 PCIe Gen 3.0 x4 NVMe não funciona
Reviewed in Brazil on June 10, 2019

This drive is easy to install, just make sure your motherboard has the correct port for it.

I benchmarked it using ATTO and it scored 2.42 gb/s write and 3.24 gb/s read, very close to claimed values. It starts windows in seconds and loads Cities Skylines in less than a minute while my old SATA drive took 4-5 minutes.

Great value compared to other M.2 drives.

5.0 out of 5 stars The upgrade is akin to getting a new computer!
Reviewed in India on March 27, 2019
The delivery experience was great. Order was delivered a day before the promised date. I'd selected the 2 day delivery option but the package arrived the next day itself. I got this SSD with a 5% discount on ICICI debit cards, getting the effective price down to 9.8k

Now, onto the SSD itself: It's fast. Like, really fast.

I'm using this SSD on my primary laptop, the Lenovo Ideapad Y700. This was a replacement to a 120GB SSD which simply wasn't cutting it in terms of storage. My workflow requires me to use 2 Operating Systems, Windows and Ubuntu. Now, Windows was installed on the SSD and wasn't really a problem in terms of day to day usage. However, I had Ubuntu installed on my 1TB mechanical hard drive. With the amount of applications I have installed, Ubuntu was operating at unusable speeds. Upgrading to this SSD has improved the usability of my computer exponentially, which to begin with has really respectable hardware otherwise.

    Comparison time!
On my mechanical hard drive, it took me 3 minutes to boot into the Ubuntu desktop, 30-40 seconds to open the terminal and 2-3 minutes to open Chrome. I'm not even going to go into how long it took to open Android Studio.
On this SSD, Ubuntu boots in 3 seconds flat. The Terminal, Chrome and Android Studio all open in a matter of a few seconds. The system in general feels extremely snappy.

    Why this SSD?
Now, WD itself does make cheaper SSDs in the form of their Green and Blue line-ups, however, those use the slower SATA interface. This one, on the other hand, uses the faster PCIe Gen3x4 interface, making it roughly 4 times faster than my older SSD when I ran CrystalDiskMark. In normal day to day use this makes no perceivable difference and if you're upgrading from a mechanical hard drive, it is going to feel like you're upgrading from an Alto to a Ferrari either way. For me, it justified the price premium of roughly 3k but do keep in mind that there are cheaper alternatives.
There are also more expensive alternatives, of course. The Samsung 960 Evo cost roughly 13k while another Crucial SSD cost roughly 11.5k. This was the cheapest NVMe I could find.

    Closing thoughts
Your hardware may be way more powerful than you think. It just may be limited by a slow mechanical hard drive. Rather than considering getting a new computer altogether, investing in an SSD can definitely give it a new lease on life.
    DO YOUR RESEARCH!
Verify if your computer does in fact support the PCIe Gen3x4 standard for storage to take full advantage of this SSD's capabilities. If not, look for SATA based alternatives and save some of your money.
This is however, the SSD to get if you decide to go for one that uses the PCIe Gen3x4 standard.

5.0 out of 5 stars Appréciable

5.0 out of 5 stars Rendimiento impresionante 3300MiB/s sostenidos y booteable.
Reviewed in Spain on February 9, 2019
