Pros:
-Extremely overkill VRM for both the CPU and RAM. The heatsinks are definitely more for looks than function as with most ASUS boards, but they get the job done and VRM temps are very reasonable, most likely because the VRM is so overkill.
-The Q-Code LED display is a godsend. It's extremely useful for troubleshooting.
-Good RAM compatibility with the latest BIOS. I'm running Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 3000MHz CL15 and running it at 3333MHz (16-17-17-38 timings 1.35V) fully stable with no errors in memtest86 or BSODs.
-BIOS is well laid out and clean, easy to navigate and has tons and tons of features. Overclocker's wet dream.
-Large clear-CMOS button on the back in the IO plate in case you really mess up some settings, compared to many motherboards which use a pin jumper or a tiny button on the PCB. Also has Start button, retry button, and reset button on the motherboard which are very useful for overclocking and are good for open air test benches where you don't have a button on the PC case to turn it on.
-Eight SATA ports. I don't need this many, but for someone who does, this board has it.
-RAM and CPU cooler clearance is a non-issue. I have a Noctua NH-D15 and the RAM has more than enough clearance.
-Lots of fan headers, all of which are PWM controllable. Love it.
Cons:
-Only one M.2 slot. Boo.
-ASUS Aura Sync is just meh. There's no ability to have white as the color (my build is white themed so I just had to turn them off).
-The LEDs on the PCB can be distracting if your case is more dim than usual. Especially the bright red LED on the Start button on the bottom of the PCB.
One thing to note is that I do NOT overclock my CPU. With Ryzen 2 there's really no reason to do an all-core overclock especially for gaming, because XFR 2.0 will overclock individual cores higher than you'll be able to get an all-core overclock, and many benchmarks show you can actually have higher FPS in some games using XFR 2.0 and not overclocking, since most games won't use all 6 cores/12 threads and benefit from higher clocks in the first few cores. However, the VRM on this motherboard are beastly, and if you do want to overclock, go for it. This thing will handle anything.
I gotta say I'm pleasantly surprised with the amount of updates, documentation and software that ASUS pumps out. My old mobo got maybe 4 or 5 updates in its whole lifetime but this has had more updates than that in the last few months. Not only that the updates have enabled new functionality and improved overclocking, specially for high frequency ram.
The amount of options in the BIOS/UEFI it's a bit overwhelming coming from a moderate overclocker. Honestly at first I was overwhelmed and just settle for a simple OC has I had done in the past, but with so many options in this board, just finding all it has is an adventure on its own.
That said this board is expensive, and it is NOT worth the money if you DON'T overclock at the very least and/or watercool your system. With that I can tell I managed to OC using Pstates and got my moderately good OC 1700 to 3.8Ghz on Pstate 0 which allows the system to underclock when full load is not needed all the way to 1500Mhz! and less than 0.9v!! which gets me a max temp under stress of 52ºC with my Hyper 212 Evo at around 1500rpm
This board has amazing overclocking, watercooling support, hot pluggable drive support, several fan headers, 2 RGB headers, great audio, support for temperature sensors and even water flow sensors!
This is an amazing board, but not perfect
I could use 1 or 2 more fan headers, also the IO plastic cover gets in the way when aligning the mobo in the case as well as when you want to plug the CPU power cable. The Asus AURA RGB control software (it's software but I will attribute this within this review) does not allows you to re order different lighting sections in the mobo. The mobo includes leds above the IO Cover and on the chipset but you cannot re order which lights up first nor can you do that with the RGB headers.
There are other issues with ASUS software which is kind cool but buggy and lacks documentation.
But again overall an amazing board, yes it's expensive but if you want to get into watercooling or want to get a new project this is the board for you.
