Got it up to 5ghz with Noctura cooler... had some stability issues with ProTools so dialed it back to a fair 4.5ghz. Runs cool.

This processor is hard to beat for the price. The stock heatsink looks like it would be noisy; I used a Noctua NH-9LA low-profile CPU cooler. Since this machine is for my partner, instead of the usual overclocking route many people tend toward I left the clock speed and turbo settings at stock and lowered the CPU voltage 0.03 across the board. Even with all 8 cores running (using Handbrake to encode several DVD movies), that little 0.03 voltage drop lowered my CPU power down to a peak of 66 watts, according to HWiNFO64. No stability issues when running at 4 GHZ (two or three cores running full-tilt) or when running all 8 cores loaded at 3.2 GHZ with this reduced voltage.
Since my CPU cooler isn't rated for 95 watts I didn't attempt any serious overclock, but without adjusting voltages I was able to bump the base clock to 3.5 GHZ and the turbo clocks up to 3.8 GHZ and 4.2 GHz, respectively. I expect the frequency increase would push the processor out of the 95 watt range, but not by a large amount. I'm not sure how stable the overclock would be, but it ran Elder Scrolls Online for an hour or so without any glitches, and that's with my 65 watt CPU cooler.

I have been waiting to replace my old Core i3 work rig with a Ryzen setup when they are released, but I am seriously considering just buying another one of these and waiting to see what happens with Ryzen in a year or so.

My build (for my partner):
Corsair Carbide 100R Tower
EVGA SuperNOVA 650 GS 650W fully modular 80+ gold power supply
MSI 970A Gaming Pro Carbon motherboard
Noctua NH-9LA CPU cooler
(RAM, SSD, and video card were from the previous computer).

I had decided to try the "new" AMD architecture with a quad core FX-4200 series CPU on my last machine with fair results. But now, with 4k editing, the machine was really showing its age. I don't want to spend the money on a new i7 build, plus the new machines really don't want to run W7; they're geared to W10 - I dual boot 7/10, and don't want to give up WMC, which is absent in 10.
This new CPU was a relatively inexpensive upgrade the the FX-4000 series, and gives the machine enough umph to make editing reasonable, if not super smooth.
The CPU itself comes with the stock AMD cooler, which, while probably inadequate for gaming, seems to do the job for normal graphic tasks. Installation was painless - took longer to move the power supply wires out of the way than swap the CPU, and the OS didn't mind the change one bit.

Installation was a breeze. The chip comes with new heat sink and fan, and the sink does have thermal paste preapplied. I added some extra arctic silver because I want to make sure its doing job, but what the package had preapplied is probably sufficient.

Performance wise, this was an AM3+ upgrade from the FX4300, and I definitely noticed WIN10 is much snappier to load. I was already playing GTAV at high settings with my prior set up, and now can play it pretty much maxed on everything.

EvE Online runs great at super high settings as well.

Rest of my set up is a GTX 960 and 32 gb of RAM.

Stress tested the system and chip stayed nice and cool, vid card as well (cool as usual).

Happy with my purchase, prob could have got the 8350 but wanted to have slightly lower power needs with 8320E.

I had been considering upgrading from my 4 year old phenomii x6 1055t to a new Ryzen build, but I saw this for 94 bucks with a 40 dollar rebate so I pulled the trigger on this instead and saved myself at least 500 bucks from not having to buy a new mobo and ram as well as cpu. I'm very impressed with this cpu! Combined with my gtx 1060 6gb I can now play all my games on the highest settings no problem. Witcher 3 at 60 fps on high settings with hairworks off! I have this water cooled with a Corsair H60 and I haven't seen it go over 28 degrees yet, even under heavy gaming. Maybe in a year or 2 I'll upgrade to Ryzen build, but for now this cpu breathed new life into my aging system (Along with the GTX 1060 6 gb I just got a few weeks ago that replaced a GTX 660ti). Idle temp is reading 7-11 degrees celsius. I doubt that's all that accurate since it's 20 degrees celsius in this room right now, but safe to say she's running cool, and it's using a lot less electricity too.

This chip is very good, I made this purchase for the desktop I was building. Its been a year after making it, and its been working very hard without any issues. For anyone considering buying this chip, I would definitely recommend it, make sure your motherboard will work with this chip. It is really easy to install, i've been using the stock fan that came with this chip, I've not bought another to use just yet.

This is a big step up from my Athlon II X3. I purchased it because it was a very good price (US$110), a 95W TDP, and I could use it in my AM3+ motherboard. But, if money was no object, I'd say get yourself an i5 or an i7. Single threaded performance is weak, multi-threaded performance is respectable. I'm using this in a media center PC and it does the business. It runs very cool, so no issues with heat. Benchmark wise it seems to be perform like an i5 (except for single thread), but at less than half the price. Who can say no to 8 cores at a US$110.

5.0 out of 5 stars Potencia asequible.
Reviewed in Spain on June 25, 2018

5.0 out of 5 stars Efficient and capable gaming performer
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on February 14, 2017
Me, I'm still a fan of AMD although my son has switched to Intel as they provide the best gaming solutions at the moment. I've just upgraded from a Phenom X4 9650 to this. My son has just upgraded from a Bulldozer FX-6300 to Intel. I always wanted what he had, but decided on this 8-core after looking around. (I know strictly speaking it's 8 logical processors, but that's just too much of a mouthful.) I believe that it can be overclocked but I'm not going to do that, at least not yet. With the stock cooler, which let's face it doesn't look awesome, this lovely CPU runs really cool, even under stress, and certainly when compared to my previous Phenom. Matched with an Asus R9 380 4GB and an Asus M5A78L-M PLUS/USB3 and 16GB PC3-12800. Tomb Raider Legend runs beautifully at full HD with all bells and whistles enabled, one core doing 90-95 percent and another 50 percent, stock speed 3.2 GHz, showing about 3.6 GHz Turbo (up to 4 GHz available). My son says he couldn't get the torchlight effects on the FX-6300. With 4 case fans the cores are 22 degrees C at idle and non-core CPU 37 degrees. Under stress cores 42 degrees and CPU 52. Without overclocking, using the stock cooler! I'm very pleased, to put it mildly. This just has to be great value for gaming. I'm definitely going to OC a bit and may change the cooler to a Be Quiet Pure Rock Slim depending on what I find.
