Pros:
1) Almost fully featured compared to the Pro Controller: While it's not a cheap alternative, there aren't that many Pro alternatives that have as many of the features as the official accessory. So what's missing from this package? Just NFC, and you can still use the right Joy-Con for the feature, so it's not a big deal. You still get motion controls, which is a main reason why I purchased this controller, and they still work great for games like Zelda, Splatoon, etc. You also have access of Screenshots via the Star button and Home via the 8Bitdo button on the right side of the controller.
2) Good build quality: Not only does the controller look good, but the thing is built like a tank. There's absolutely no flex in this controller, and I feel confident that this controller will not break anytime soon.
3) Cross-Platform: Along with being compatible with the Switch, you can also use this controller with PC, Android phones, and MacOS. You can switch between these modes via combinations of the Power button (which is Start by the way) and any of the four face buttons, with a guide on the back of the controller. Honestly, while this isn't the most convenient way of switching modes (would have preferred a switch in it's place), it makes this a pretty good value if you play more than just the Switch. Not only that, but while working great for the Switch, it also works well for PC via USB-C or Bluetooth, though XInput would be a better choice for it (more on that later). As far as Android, it works well depending on the game (some mobile games might not be that friendly to controllers). I haven't tested it out on Mac, and I never will in the unforeseeable future, but even just for those three, the controller works great. If you have a NES or SNES (or even the Classic variants), there are even ways to pair this controller up to them, via a dongle sold separately, making this controller great for retro-gamers as well. Having a switch on the back instead of cumbersome combos would've been better (and I swear that I didn't mean to add that many "switches," it's just my best way of putting this part of the review), but even this bring more value to the controller.
4) Great buttons and D-Pad: This is also another reason for buying this controller. First of all, I prefer the layout of the PlayStation over the Xbox, and the Switch Pro Controller is more akin to the Xbox. It's mostly preference, but I find having the D-pad across the face button is better for 2D games, which is being common due to the indie scene. The buttons are also craft nicely, emulating the SNES buttons, and the triggers also have a nice indentation on them, differentiating them from the L & R buttons. While I like the Joy-Cons provided with the Switch, the lack of an actual D-pad is a letdown, though an understandable one, and as far as the Comfort Grip is concerned, the right side always felt cramped due to the sticks not being angled like on this controller.
Cons (or things to consider before purchasing):
While I do like this controller, there are a few flaws that some people may need to consider. Most of these issues, if not all, are rather small, so they didn't affect my score that much, but I think some things might be good for some people to know before purchasing.
1) Small size: Honestly, I don't have much of a problem with the size, though I could see some people having a problem with it. Since this is made to be a SNES controller for modern times, there are no handles to grip to hold on to, plus the L, R, and triggers are also kind of cramped in together. The thumbsticks are also barely bigger than the Joy-Con sticks, though they're still better than using the Joy-Cons in the grip. If you have no problem holding onto an actual SNES controller, this con becomes pretty mute, but I don't think this will be the case for everybody.
2) Mode guide: I don't get why 8Bitdo did the following: using terms like DInput and XInput. Seriously, while this controller is more designed for gamers, who I imagine would know the difference, casual consumers may not know the difference at all. DInput is what is used for Android and PlayStation, and XInput is what is used by Xbox controllers, which is commonly used by many PC games. This is why I say XInput is better for PC play, because while you can still set up the controller for DInput via Steam, it's basically plug-and-play due to many developers implementing it in so many games. I think if they used terminology Android/PC instead of the technical terms, it would've been better if they were more straight forward. All this information is in the manual, so it isn't that big of a deal, but they would've been better off using other terms.
3) No iOS support: If you plan on using this with a iOS device, don't bother. Watching one review on YouTube, it was confirmed to not work with iOS devices, such as iPhones and iPads, but I also heard that Apple charges a licensing fee of the MFi program, so I really couldn't blame them.
4) No NFC: This is the only feature that the controller doesn't have, but really, not a big deal since the right Joy-Con has it built in.
If you're not sold on buying a Pro Controller for $70 and find Joy-Con grip uncomfortable, this is a great, if not the best, alternative to get. The asking price might not be cheap, almost as much as a Xbox One or a DualShock 4, but if you have a PC and a phone you play games on regularly enough, whether it's emulation or whatever, you might find enough value to excuse the asking price. Overall, this a nice, retro-styled, multiplatform alternative to the Switch Pro Controller, and I highly recommend it.
When they announced the SN30 Pro, my first reaction was it was a crazy idea. I didn’t think they would be able to incorporate full analog controls into an SNES controller shell (with triggers) and make it work.
Well, they did.
We now have a hybrid SNES/modern style controller that you can use on both classic and current games — and one that works quite well.
As you can see from the photo, the controller shell is identical in size to the SNES30 gamepad, which itself was a perfect copy of the SNES. The directional pad, start/select, and A,B,X,Y buttons were just pushed upward to make room for the analog sticks at the bottom, which have the same horizontal layout as a Dual Shock controller.
At the top, they were able to add L1,L2, R1,R2 triggers without any alteration to the controller shells thickness. And despite their slim design, they work very well. The lower L2, R2 triggers have a nice curve to them that allows you to rest your fingers comfortably on the controller, giving you a nice grip, despite the slim profile. If you have very large hands and thick fingers, this may not be for you, unless you’ve learned to adjust to the SNES pads smaller size.
You’re probably wondering how good the analog sticks are. Third party analog sticks are often known for their poor sensitivity and huge dead zones, meaning you get very imprecise control, particularly with first person shooters. I’m happy to say these are very good. Much better than I thought they would be. Fairly close in quality to a Dual Shock 4, Xbox One and Switch Controller. I played Call of Duty, Wolfenstein 2, The Last of Us Remastered, and several other games with them and had no issue. Even for fine control like sniping, they were good. 8BitDo didn’t cheap out.
The controller can be used on modern platforms. There is a firmware update on 8BitDo’s website to use the controller on the Nintendo Switch, and if you get the Mayflash Magic S adapter, you can use them wirelessly on your PS3 and PS4. They also work great on pc. There is just the smallest bit of lag I noticed. Very small, don’t know how many milliseconds, but enough that you wouldn’t want to use it on an online fast twitch game like an FPS or fighting game. Single player is fine though. And of course, all your classic games play just as great as they did with the SNES30 Pro. The sticks are placed well, to avoid getting in the way when they’re not needed. The controller also shuts off after a few minutes when not in use, to conserve battery life.
It’s not a cheap controller at around $50.00, but the build quality is up to the level of Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo’s.
I was pleasantly surprised by this. If you’ve dreamed of a hybrid gamepad that has the best of both worlds, this is the controller you should buy.

Comprato a circa €30 tramite Amazon Warehouse, arrivato immacolato.
Complimenti a 8Bitdo.
Right out of the box, you're going to want to update the firmware (otherwise it will not connect to your Switch). It has all the buttons needed including clickable thumbpads to play modern console games. It feels great in the hand, and the buttons have good tactile feedback.
Playing PC games with this controller is nice because it reads as a x-input controller. This means any game compatible with an Xbox 360/One controller will work with the 8Bitdo SN30 Pro. I'll probably still stick to my Xbox One controller, but I could see this controller replacing it for certain games such as platformers. The d-pad is just in a much more comfortable position. However, the d-pad still feels inferior compared to the Xbox One controller's d-pad which just has a better click. If you're wondering how the controller feels, the plastic is a bit off from the original SNES controllers but nonetheless does not feel cheap (but definitely not as nice as the Xbone controller). If you've held a SNES controller before this will feel exactly the same.
For the Switch, I absolutely love this controller. I despise the d-pad on the joycons (even though they are my preferred controllers) and haven't pulled the trigger on a pro controller yet (because of the d-pad issues I've heard about). Playing platformers like Shovel Knight and Celeste with the 8Bitdo just feels so much more comfortable. The 8Bitdo can connect to the Switch wirelessly, which is a huge plus. Moreover, the 8Bitdo also has a gyro in it and games such as Splatoon 2 work nicely (although I still prefer playing that game with split joycons). The inclusion of a home and screenshot button are also a nice touch.
I've connected the 8Bitdo to my android phone, and it seems to be supported natively. Don't have that many games to test it out on, but emulating N64 games worked fine.
Also the SN30 Pro uses a USB type-c port to charge, which I was very happy to find out about because this means I only need to carry around one cable for my Switch, phone, and this controller.
Highly recommend it to anybody looking for a controller, especially if they have more than one device.
