None<b>📺🗼Tips for Better TV Reception and More Channels </b> ☑Experiment with different antenna locations in your home. ☑Face the antenna in the direction of the TV signal towers. Use a longer coaxial cable to reach the window facing the tower if needed. ☑Place the antenna as high as possible on a window or wall. ☑When living near mountains or surrounded by buildings or tall trees, try laying the antenna on a table or other flat surface. ☑Use the amplifier when needed to boost reception. Note that the amplifier may actually cause interference in certain situations, so it’s always best to try with and without the amplifier to compare reception results. ☑Eliminate interference from electronics and electric equipment by keeping the antenna away from other electronic appliances in your home.
Legal Disclaimer
You can Remove the Detachable antenna amplifier if your house is within 35 miles range from the tower. We do NOT Recommend to use this amplifier or booster if your house is very close to the broadcast tower and the signal is already very strong.

Many stations have moved to UHF so most antennas are not going to work well much past 50 miles
from the transmitter site, and most indoor antennas will only be good for about 30 or so miles.
For indoor antennas Putting the antenna in a window facing the TV Station's antenna site
will give the best results (Most stations and strongest signal) as well as installing higher up.
Size does matter to a degree, a larger antenna (for the TV Bands) will tend to capture more of the signal.
Do your homework first and find out what the frequencies and directions of the stations
are in for your location so you can buy the appropriate model for the best results.
(This antenna is good for the UHF band, but if your channels are on VHF you will want a different one.)
Sometimes a preamp will make the reception worse to try it, with and without the preamp.
--
That being said, I'm pretty impressed with this little antenna, I only have them stuck to a
window and pointed a bit off from the optimum direction and they still perform pretty well.
I could spend quite a bit more and go with a larger outdoor antenna and get better results
but for the price that I paid (under $20 for each antenna ), these antennas work quite well.
Setting up the antenna is quite easy and self explanatory. Same goes for attaching the included amplifier. The ease of use is one of the reasons I enjoy the product. Placement of the antenna is a bit more difficult, as it takes a great deal of trial and error. After trying many, many placements, we discovered that the antenna actually works best when it is mounted inside the apartment. That being said, I recommend listening to all the reviews that talk about placing the antenna high. We placed ours on the wall a little over 3/4 of the way up the wall and found the reception to be best here.
As far as aesthetics, the antenna satisfies. We were initially skeptical about placing it inside on the wall, but the shiny white color does not provide much of an imposing spectacle on the wall. The cord is very long, allowing a great deal of flexibility in placement. The down side of the longer cord, of course, is hiding it. Currently we have the cord running along the floor boards, but I think it could be easily hidden along the ceiling edge if we took a little more time and effort to take care of it.
For performance, we have been generally satisfied. We currently use the amplifier to find stations and have found that we get generally good reception the majority of the time. Some of the breaks in signal can get quite frustrating, especially for live events. As I stated earlier, however, we do not have the ideal apartment location available to us, so this is not entirely the fault of the antenna. We tried the antenna without amplification aswell, but did not see any real benefit to disconnecting the amp.
Overall, this is a great antenna at this price point. If you are searching for a sort of swiss army knife antenna that can provide unamplified and amplified options, the combination of value and performance is definitely very good in this option.
UPDATE 10/18/2016: The antenna was inadvertently moved and now for the life of me I cannot get more than maybe 70 channels, most of which are NOT major network channels. At this point I'm rather disappointed and have spent a lot of time experimenting with placement and am getting about 1/2 of the total channels as before.
I decided to finally cut the cable cord and bought this antenna as a similar type came highly recommended but this one was considerably less expensive. I live just 20 miles from downtown LA so I figured the 50 mile radius would be more than enough. Perhaps 20-30 miles would have been fine, or even rabbit ears.
Either way, at last search I had 124 channels! Mind you, it's important to search and search again and again and again and move the antenna around, up and down, on its back, flat, on the wall, in a window, etc. For me the window facing north works best. I live in a courtyard style apartment complex on the first of two floors yet I guess that doesn't matter as it must penetrate structures/trees, etc. in some way that I don't understand.
I do think there are many, many variables to consider, including weather (which I don't have) and perhaps wind in particular. It seems that even if you put the antenna in a fixed location, your channels and reception will vary from time to time. When that happens, I'd suggest searching and searching again and so on.
Getting ABC to come in took several tries. It finally happened when I got up to 121 channels I think. Even then it's not real clear but I know if I fiddle with the antenna's location a tad it will come in fine. That of course means that once the antenna is moved even a bit, other channels might be lost or at less viewable. Yet you might get some channels that you previously did not.
Oddly enough I have a local San Diego CBS channel which comes in great, even though I am roughly 100 miles north of San Diego (and my antenna faces north, not south).
While 124 channels may sound fantastic, I would say at least 2/3 of them are in languages I don't speak.
I've realized that there is so much better tv to be found with an antenna instead of with cable. Some examples in the past few days: "Barney Miller," "The Mary Tyler Moore," "The White Shadow" and "Charlie's Angels," not to mention terrific classic movies like "The Great Escape." Sure, I might be dating myself but this stuff is more watchable to me than any reality tv program of today. Since most of what I watch besides live sports is nothing in particular, preferring to channel-surf mindlessly, this works out A-OK for me.
One issue is that with antenna tv, unless you have a tv guide and/or want to go online to check every channel's website for listings, you really don't know what is on and when. And the descriptions (when they appear) for shows are often very basic.
Perhaps someone has a suggestion on how I can easily find out what each local channel is broadcasting.
Ultimately I wish I had done this years ago. With streaming MLB & NBA subscriptions plus Sling TV when needed (for ESPN, TNT, TBS and other channels that show MLB & NBA playoff games live that are not usually shown streaming online even with subscription), I am going to save tons and am a happy camper. Note: MLB Extra Innings on cable (which my dad has, 100 miles away) now comes with a free subscription to its streaming online service (which is normally $110-$130 of late) so it's a boon for me as I use that for free.
It's been close to a month and I am now getting 149 channels. Some are pixelated/unclear but that's a lot of channels!
Top reviews from other countries
For comparison, I also have a outdoor rooftop Channel Master UHF/VHF OTA antenna, and that thing brings in almost 40 channels without any issues.... then again, the Channel Master antenna is mounted high on the roof without any obstructions between the TV towers in Toronto and Buffalo, and my home's outdoor antenna.
This little powered antenna has to deal with a whole bunch of walls and doors, which severely interferes with OTA signals, but it was still able to find 12 channels. I'm impressed by that. With that said, am I happy overall with this little powered antenna for the spare bedroom TV? Yep, especially when I take into account how easy it was to mount on the wall, how small it is when compared to my large outdoor one, and how affordable it was when I bought it. It's a great option for people that want to try out OTA, and don't want to use a bigger outdoor antenna.
CONS: not a huge improvement considering it's triple the size of the BMX. The amplifier made no difference ON or OFF for any of the channels, and it needs to remain plugged in for the antenna to function, so another outlet is now taken.
PROS: once the 1byone was moved to a new location, only made possible because of the longer cable provided by this antenna, wow. New channels, plus the old channels don't break up anymore. Is it the antenna or the location? I'd say probably a little of both. And the build quality is better than the BMX - cable is sturdier and it just looks better overall. Then again, if you like things compact, the BMX is a great option. The 1byone is DEFINITELY better than rabbit ears or the "star trek phaser" antennas than sit beside the TV; no comparison.
CONCLUSION:
Worth the money, well built and does the job with careful placement, nice long, strong cable. Amplifier may not do much.
Where I live (between Toronto and Hamilton), I can actually pick ~35 channels (most from Buffalo) with a good antenna. With the true 2020-model, all 35 come in very stably. My old 2019 model could only get ~2/3 to 3/4 of the channels reliably (and only with good weather). This model picks up a few channels less than that. Although all the ratings are inflated, I would rate them as the "50 mile" < "60 mile" << "130+mile".
That said, it is still very good value for money - but you would be better off paying the extra $15-20 to get a true 2020-edition ("130+ miles")
Pros:
- Low price
- Quality-looking cabling, and a good overall length
Cons:
- Large and inflexible, heavier antenna (i.e., about 13x9 inches, vs ~8x8 inches for newer models)
- Oddly requires a power connection to function, even in an unamplified state. If you don't plug it in to AC power, you zero channels. It seems power is required to connect the antenna path to the coax, which is bizarre.
- The power switch is reverse labelled: "On" actually means off/unamplified, and "Off" turns on the amplifier (!). Unamplified, it works the same as my 2019 or 2020 models, and picks up the same small fraction of channels (~20% max). The larger antenna surface is not help in the unamplified state
Again, for all these reasons, I recommend you go with a modern, true 2020-edition, rated as "130+ miles".
I live in the east end of Ottawa (Orleans) in a wood framed house. Previously I was only able to get six channels over the air (4,6,13,24,30). I installed this antenna in a bedroom upstairs on a book shelf about 2m from a window. I now get twelve channels: 4-CBC-en, 6-Global, 9-CBC-fr, 11-CHCH, 13-CTV, 14-Omni2, 15-CTS(YesTV), 24-TVO, 30-CIVO, 32-CHOT-TVA, 43-CHRO, 60-Omni1. So this is a big improvement. Also the picture quality is excellent.
The antenna is very light and looks stylish. The power supply and all cables are provided.
The reason I mention the wood frame house above is that we also tried this antenna in an apartment building with concrete walls. The apartment unit was located in the east-end of Ottawa and faced east, that is away from the main broadcast TV antenna at Camp Fortune. We were not able to pick up any channels. You would have the same issue with ANY antenna. The TV signal cannot penetrate all the concrete walls in the apartment building. It can only come through the patio doors/balcony windows Since this apartment was in the east-end, it would need to face north or west to get reception from the Camp Fortune antenna. This is very Ottawa specific, but the point is that if you live in an apartment, find out where the TV broadcast antennas are in your region and ensure your apartment unit has a clear path to that antenna. Again, this statement applies to ANY antenna you buy.
