I personally stopped using the app after a month or so and only rely on the timer. You can put up with the app at first as a sort of training wheel. But after some time when you've become accustomed to how long you should spend on each tooth and get the pacing down, the built in timer is all you need. The app is buggy. It'll say you're brushing a different segment of your mouth than where you're currently at, and that could lead to a bit of frustration and wasted minutes in your busy mornings.
Overall, highly recommend it. I chose this over the new io series because functionally, they do the same job and they both do it well, But the cost and ease of finding replacement heads for these toothbrushes are miles ahead of the io series at this time. Not sure how much more, if, the io series brushes your teeth...but I'd imagine it's negligible.
The TL;DR review version? It isn't without its flaws, but I'm not sorry I purchased it.
Pros: Love the option of a purple toothbrush; love the matching carrying case; love the custom color options for the light-up part (just under where the brush head connects to the body) - it adds a super fun detail lol; love the smart app feature where it tracks which teeth/areas you've brushed and which you haven't; love the timer; love the pressure indicator and color change notification; love the habit tracking; love the grading system; love how you can charge it IN the case or on a separate base; stays charged for a pretty long time; the various setting options for intensity and speed; the hyper-clean feeling I have after using it
Cons: My first one was a dud and wouldn't connect to Bluetooth/the app after the first use so I had to exchange it for a new one; the tracker for teeth/area you've brushed isn't always accurate (I'll apply the brush to the right side of my mouth, but it thinks I'm at the left side or front instead and then I spend 20 seconds trying to get it to sense the correct area of my mouth); sometimes you have to brush extra long in certain areas because it doesn't sense how long you've actually brushed there; the price tag (what the hell was I thinking spending that much on a TOOTHBRUSH?!); the pre-set speed option vibrates your head so much you think it's going to fall off (the "feather" setting is perfect though!); the price of replacement heads
So overall, it definitely has its flaws and glitches that need to be smoothed out. Sometimes I wonder if it will become obsolete sooner rather than later because it's a "smart" device. While I don't regret buying it, and I definitely think it's helped me improve my brushing habits and reaching areas I struggled with before, I definitely think I could have achieved the same basic results purchasing a less expensive, non-smart version.

One thing I'm really enjoying is that the toothbrush gives me a better idea of its battery status. My old one just had a light that would blink red when it was about to die, but by that point it was basically already too late and it would just turn off a few seconds later. This new toothbrush has three LEDs that grow dimmer one after the other to give you some idea of how much charge you have left, and if you use the app on the phone, that actually gives you a percentage and a little reminder once you get under 20% or so that you might want to charge it. That way you can avoid ever running out of charge entirely. Very much appreciated!
But speaking of the app...It is kinda nice to keep track of your brushing/flossing/rinsing/tongue cleaning habits if you choose to use those functions. And those work pretty well with the brush; for example, when I switch the toothbrush to tongue cleaning mode the little checkbox for 'Tongue cleaning' gets automatically checked in the app for that cleaning session. Pretty neat. (Obviously, when you rinse your mouth or floss it the brush and app can't know that, so you have to manually check those boxes.)
One thing that I find rather irritating and disappointing since it would have been awesome if it worked as intended, is the function where the app keeps track of which area of your mouth you're cleaning and whether you've cleaned it enough. That just...doesn't work. Like, I start brushing my top left molars and the thing thinks I'm doing bottom right. It does seem overly fond of thinking I'm brushing bottom right molars, actually, and has real difficulties believing me when I'm cleaning bottom left molars. As a result, before I've even started brushing any teeth on my bottom jaw the app tells me I've completed the bottom right molar region and in order for it to register that I've completed the bottom left molar region I have to wait until it thinks I'm brushing that area and then just hold the toothbrush still so as to not confuse it. If I actually were to move the brush around to really brush the teeth in the bottom left molar region it would immediately think I was brushing the bottom incisors - or even the bottom right molars once more.
On top of all that, the app divides the teeth into top left, top middle and top right, bottom left, bottom middle and bottom right, and times how long you (supposedly) spend brushing each of those regions. Even if that worked as intended - which it does not, as I described above - that's still pretty imprecise and doesn't even account for which side of the teeth you're brushing. So you could just be brushing, say, the outside and the app would still give you full marks, so to speak.
So at the end of the day, this tracking function is not helpful at all. If it were more precise and worked as intended in accurately recognizing where you're actually brushing, it would be awesome, though.
That being said, I don't think it's too much to expect from people to keep track of which teeth they're brushing for the measly two minutes that are recommended as brushing time. And you don't have to use the app to use the toothbrush, either. The brush itself does an excellent job, is easy to use, and lets me know when it needs to be recharged, which are the important bits (to me). Just be aware that if you're thinking about getting this toothbrush because of the tracking features in the app, you might as well opt for a cheaper model without that tracking feature, because it really doesn't help much at all.
I particularly like the full odd head brush.
Many brushes come with too many bells and whistles that you don’t need.. for example a timer the brush itself vibrates to let you know to change sides or you have finished brushing.
If you are still using a manual brush… make the change to this guy.
