All that being said, the drive itself is great, I couldnt be happier with it. Installation is easy, its fast even not being at full speed everything is almost instantaneous, and the Heatsink does a good job keeping it cool. When I was originally looking at NVMe drives, I was going to go for a 250gb and a cheaper 3.0 Gen 4 card because of my motherboard however the cards averaged around $50-$60 which led me to look at 500gb cards for slightly more, around $70-$80...and when this drive (The WD SN750 500gb w/ Heatsink) was on sale for $89 I jumped on it as an investment for the future, when I do another build.
All in all, I would strongly suggest this NVMe, the performance is on par with all the high end PCIe 3.0 Gen 4 drives, and the cooling is better in most cases.
*UPDATE*
For those of you who have read this far, I bought an addon PCIe 3.0 board to be able to run this NVMe at full speed. I put it in my 2nd PCIe x16 slot (3.0) and am getting fantastic results, with almost no impact to my GPU. I am also still able to boot from this drive as I said originally due to the fact my motherboard natively supports M.2. I will likely be upgrading my GPU next, to a RTX 2060S, as the last piece until I do a new build(which I will be bringing the GPU and NVMe to the new build, thus the pricey investments in worthwhile hardware for such an old build currently). I will keep this review updated going forward.

That said, the read/write speed is 4.5 times that of my SATA SSD. When I cloned the drive, it took a little under an hour to clone 700gigs. Brutally fast, very good component. I'm going to store games and graphic files on here and pick up the active use performance boosts. I don't care too much about losing some boot speed; a long boot up time for my system is already 15 seconds; typically closer to 8.
Also, prices dropped. If I had another M.2 socket to play with, I would definitely buy another drive and see about doing whatever black magic hoodoo voodoo that we all do to get it running. But for now, I'm putting it off until I get my new mobo and CPU.
5/5 stars, would buy again.
Installation was very straightforward. My motherboard came with a thermal pad to place underneath the drive to keep the heat away from the underlying PCB. It installed and screwed down without incident. I cloned my old Samsung SATA SSD to the WD drive and expanded the main partition to fill the additional space. The computer booted from the new drive as I hoped and everything is just SO MUCH SNAPPIER. Granted, I made a significant CPU upgrade at the same time, but I can tell that read and write speeds are helping dramatically with opening applications, particularly large and resource-heavy applications like Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop. Aesthetics are nice. I find that a lot of PC components anymore are gaudy and "gamery". I don't own a windowed case so I don't really care what the gear inside looks like or what color it is, but the black and silver scheme should match pretty much anything. The heatsink is made by EK Water Blocks who have a very solid reputation the PC water cooling scene.
I'm not the kind of guy that benchmarks drives. I'm also not going to go out of my way to buy the absolute "best" drive on the market because it writes a few more bytes per second than the other one. You can go down a rabbit hole really quick of finding the "best" and "fastest" of every computer component. Having said that, it's plenty fast for my needs and I have respect for the WD brand. I can get applications, games, and large photo collections/catalogs open without hesitation. Overall, I'm glad I bought it. It does seem to be expensive, but I do have to remind myself that there's an ENTIRE TERABYTE on a little tiny aluminum stick that just sits right on the motherboard and doesn't require additional power or cables. I will absolutely be sticking with M.2 NVMe drives going forward (at least until something new comes along).
