Great headset, but it has some major shortcomings as well
Before you begin reading this review, If you just want to read a pros and cons list of the Elite Atlas Aero, skip to it below the following paragraph. If you want a more detailed review, then read the entire review. I make it no secret that the mic on the headset could be better, but if you want to know what my solution was to it, then I will have that written in my conclusion below the pros and cons list. This headset has features that I both really like and really dislike at the same time. To start with what I like about it, it has pretty nice surround sound audio. While I am aware that sound quality is completely subjective, I think this headset sounds proper good. You can even change the sound settings to your liking in the Turtle Beach Control Studio, save presets of your settings, establish macros, etc. It is also comfortable to wear. Like any headset when you first get it, you need to wear it for some time to break it in, which was the case for this headset because it felt like a vice on my head for about two weeks. After that initial break in time, however, I am able to comfortably wear it for long gaming sessions (my definition of that is at least 4-6 hours or so, but I can comfortably wear them for longer, too). Another neat feature of this headset that you will not find on other headsets is it's ability to be folded up if you are going to be traveling with it. I should have a picture of what it looks like folded up on this review. As it says in the title of the product, it is wireless, which is always a great plus. As a matter of fact, you would not be spending this much on a headset if it were not wireless. Since it is wireless, it runs on battery, which is another strength this headset has. I can easily use this headset for 2-3 days (on and off usage, of course) before I have to even think about about recharging it. One more pro I will list that is purely subjective is that this headset looks amazing. It has a black and silver color scheme with Turtle Beach branding on both cups and on the band on the top. The interior part of the cups are made with some type of PU leather that makes the headset look quite premium, and the build quality is exceptional as the plastic feels tough and does not succumb to bending. As for the negatives of this headset, they can make choosing this headset difficult because while this headset has strong positives to it, it also has potentially deal breaking negatives. The worst offender against this headset is that the mic quality is garbage. Now, mic quality is also purely subjective, but both my friends and I have heard what it makes my voice sound like and we can agree that it does not sound good at all. The quality could be comparable to a $20 headset, or it might even be possible to find one around that price point that sounds better than this headset's microphone. To add insult to injury, this mic has not all the time, but often enough, had static noise, which nobody wants to hear (I could not say if the static will be present in all headsets, but it is absolutely present in mine). Another gripe I have about this headset is that every now and then I have trouble getting the headset connected. The headset connects via a USB dongle, and the idea is that you hold down the power button on the headset to turn it on and it connects. Sometimes, however, it simply will not connect the first time. I can always get it connected eventually by unplugging and replugging the dongle, restarting the software (the software can be buggy at times), turning the headset off and back on again, or doing a combination of the three. I deal with it, but the headset would be much better if it simply connected every time. This next con does not affect me as much, but other reviews that I have read on this headset indicate how it could be a problem for some, but not others. That problem is that all the dials and button for the sound and whatnot are located on the rear of the left cup, which is not ideal for people that like to lie down and listen to music because the dials can be accidentally be dialed, thus unexpectedly changing the volume of the sound. The headset would be improved if Turtle Beach simply put these dials and buttons on the front of the right cup because that part is completely bare of any buttons or dials and would solve that problem. Once again, not everybody will have this problem, but the "glasses friendly" feature is not as good as I feel like it could be. I do not wear prescription glasses, but I have a pair that is anti blue light, so I will sometimes wear those when I am gaming late at night. Those glasses are relatively thick, however, so I believe that this feature is not a complete con, but more of a "your mileage may vary" type of feature, as those particular glasses are fairly uncomfortable when worn with the headset on. I believe that is everything I have to say about the headset, and I know it was pretty wordy, so I will summarize everything I said in a list below.Pros-Sound quality is phenomenal (subjective)-Turtle Beach Control Studio allows for customization of sound, presets, macros, etc.-Comfortable, can be worn for hours (keep in mind that like all other headsets, you will need to break it in at first, so it could be relatively uncomfortable for about two weeks or so)-Folds up for convenient travelling-Wireless (obviously)-Long lasting battery (I can get a couple days out of the headset between charges)-Looks great and has sturdy build qualityCons-Microphone is garbage (mine often has static noise) (also subjective)-Getting the headset connected is sometimes challenging-Buttons and dials on back of headset, so lying down and listening to music can be a challenge-"Glasses friendly" feature probably could be better, but I say your mileage may vary on this oneShould you buy this headset? If the price is right, then maybe. If all you care about is having excellent sound and a microphone that is far from perfect, but gets the job done, then you might be interested in considering this headset for its sound customization. If you absolutely need a good mic, then I say look elsewhere. If you do not mind spending a little more, then do what I did to get the best of both worlds in which I bought a separate microphone with a cheap microphone stand. The microphone I bought, which is top quality for the price, is the Fifine K669 USB microphone (if you want to learn more about it, a bunch of tech youtubers such as Linus Tech Tips had good things to say about it). The current price for it is much steeper than it was ($45 now compared to about $27 when it was being widely reviewed. I guess the company realized what a good product they had and jacked up the price). As for the microphone stand, unless you are also doing some type of professional recording or whatever, just get the cheapest Amazon Basics stand you can get (mine was about $13). I would still say the current price is not too much to spend on the microphone, but unless if you really want this headset, I guarantee there is a better deal somewhere else. To put it in perspective, I bought the Elite Atlas Aero for about $130, plus the microphone for $25 (it was listed as used, but it arrived like new), plus the stand for $13, which totals to about $168 to have good sound and a good mic. If you bought the same thing now (assuming the headset is still $130), then you would be paying about $188, which is close enough to the $200 headset threshold, so you might as well get something high end in the first place if you are spending that much money. The price that I think this headset should be is $80-$90, but I do not think you could buy it for that price.

My first headset was a Logitech 433 corded set. It worked well, but dealing with the cord was a pain. I decided to go wireless.

When reviewing wireless headsets the were a few that cost hundreds of dollars and a bunch that were cheap that I didn't think would be very good. I don't have a lot of cash to spend, so I picked up a refurbished Logitech 933. Big mistake. It was horrible. The sound was bad, the microphone was worse, and the left speaker keeps going out and I have to smack the thing to get it to play sound again - a total waste of money.

I saw the Elite Atlas Aero for $120 here on Amazon and decided to give it a try. All the really good reviews on Youtube are spot on. This thing rocks. It installed perfectly the first time. Others have had trouble with getting the software to work on their Windows PC, but my install was flawless. The firmware updates were a snap, also.

The sound is terrific. The microphone is perfect. The battery life is great. It just works. I love it. The only negative thing I can say is that it is a little tight on my head and wearing it for long gaming sessions will let me feel it. Your mileage may vary on that - we're all different sizes.

For under $150, this is a fantastic piece of equipment.

    UPDATE!
After speaking to customer service, it turns out I just had to switch my USB receiver into a different USB control. Not a different port in the same area, but a different source all together. In my case, this meant instead of plugging it into one of the BACK ports, I had to plug it into the FRONT ports. Basically, from what support described, it sounds like the USB ports on the back of my PC were getting 'overloaded' from having too many other USB devices plugged in. This explains why my last headset was having the same problem. Now after having used the headset for a few weeks, after switching the USB receiver to the front, it works perfectly fine. I love this headset! Thanks support!

    See my original review below:

This is the second Turtle Beach I have owned, and this one has the same problem as my last one. At random times, the sound will start to sound like static. Sometimes, it get's so bad, that the sound will completely drop out, and it will continue to cut in and out for a while. This is incredibly frustrating because it's unpredictable. When there's no interference, it works great and it sounds awesome. But I don't know if this is a Turtle Beach problem, or a problem in my home. It's not like we have an abnormal number of wireless devices. 2 Phones, 3-4 tablets, a wifi printer.

Other than that they are great. I LOVE the cooling gel omg. That was the selling point for me honestly. They are super comfy and I can go hours without any discomfort. But that interference...it's just such a pain and I wish I could figure out how to stop it.

I'd be interested to know if anyone else has the same problem...

TL:DR - New Edit- If I could give 0 stars, I would. downgrade from abysmal build quality to literal garbage. See "Edited" text below, and read the countless reviews showing the exact same material failure in exactly the same spot as mine

Old Edit- Great sound quality, great comfort, OK software and abysmal build quality.

    1) Sound Quality - I'm not an audiophile, but I do listen to music that calls for a headphone that delivers more than just bass and ear-garbage. These work for that. I think they sound great. They also work well with simulated surround software.

    2) Comfort - I can wear them all day without my ears hurting or leaving large dents in my bald head. That's saying something about the comfort.

    3) Software - I installed the turtle beach software for about 2 weeks. It was OK. But for me, it was the opposite of what I wanted. The software DOMINATED the settings in a way that I found unacceptable. It was always fighting with my other communication and audio control software. Plus, the ONLY things I really, really wanted it to do, it couldn't do. The mother-ship software should be able to control things like auto-off timers and such, no such thing on these above average cost headphones.

    4) Build Quality - To be gentle and blunt simultaneously, come on guys and gals. These are supposed to be higher quality than the cheapo headsets floating around out there. That's why we pay a premium for them. After just under 4 months, my micro-UBS charging jack is wonky. I can't decide if the battery is messed up, if the charging hardware is messing up or if there is a physical problem with the jack, but it ain't workin' like it did the first 3 months.

Specifically, sometimes they will not turn on. The red LED pops on for a second and then, poof, nothing. If I plug them in and walk away for 30 minutes, when I come back, they will work if I leave them plugged in (but they will NOT function immediately after plugging them in, even though they now have an external power supply). Then, the charging (power?) LED turns off after awhile. Are they fully charged? Are they still charging? I don't know! It's a super awesome surprise! In a nutshell, they are not behaving the same as when I first purchased them, they worked flawlessly the first 3 months, plugged in, not plugged in and everything in between.

And, lastly, that G.D. auto-off "feature". That is so infuriating to me that it cannot be adjusted or turned off. If your headset "thinks" there hasn't been any meaningful sounds after a few minutes, beedeebooodooo, they turn off. You might be between tracks, or between episodes of Glacial Snails 2020, or maybe just wanted a few minutes of audible rest. Well, you don't get to hear important sounds, incoming messages or mails! Because F-you! That's why! Turtle Beach has decided that you don't need an always-on-when-you-want-them-to-be-on feature. They MUST turn off whenever they want to. You can't even adjust time timer.

Overall, I am actually happy with them, up until the last couple of weeks. Sadly, I will not be trying Turtle Beach again any time soon, as they have soiled their name towards me in terms of build longevity.

    Edited:
Today is 3/31/2021, and I have owned these "premium" gaming cans for less than a year. I have attached a photo of the point of failure of these garbage headphones. To be clear, I am a boring 40+ y/o gamer that doesn't toss his gear around. They've never been dropped and are always sat down, not tossed down (partially because my gaming space is cluttered... I can't be scattering crap everywhere).

Where the cans rotate and swivel, the plastic has broken and the right can is now wobbly and days away from completely failure.

    Less. Than. A. Year.

You should be ashamed, Turtle Beach, seriously. Premium? More like "Ha, these idiots will buy anything just because the work Elite or Premium is in the description..."

Never again will Turtle Beach be purchased by any member of my household, I will actively campaign against it. I will make sure to mention to all my gaming buddies as well.

Checked out the warranty, I have to pay to send them in, it will take weeks (and those are pre-COVID dates.... who knows what they are now for a waiting time?) and I will be without headphones until they decide to return them. Seriously, it's time we started shaming companies for these crappy, half-*** warranties they offer on expensive products.

As soon as mu all-metal replacement cans arrive, these are going in the trash.

Sound quality is up there but it's a lot of work to get everything just right with the pc and the TB software.
The cushions are great all around except that your ear will hurt into long sessions if you dont habe your ear perfectly centered. Results in a pressure but instant relief when readjusted
Battery life is top notch, only takes about 60-90mins for a full 30 hour charge

So, I love these headphones. I've had them for 4 years. Four. Years. They were bought in 2020. I only came here to see the model name and number, fully expecting it to be gone and an update in the wings.
They were ninety-nine dollars when I got them
Do with that information what you will.
I don't know if I would pay this new price for them. They are very good, but they are ninety-nine bucks good.

Slechte aankoop van mijn leven. Voorheen ook een turtle beach headset gehad. Die was top! De nieuwe variant is helaas een enorme downgrade. Minder bereik, slechter gehoor, meer ruis en een slechte connectie die vaak uitvalt.

Very good software and speaker/mic sound quality. Isolation is good (cant hear much external noise due to good ear pads) Particularly good for glasses wearers as you can adjust a channel in the ear pads for them.
They are very comfortable but do still feel slightly heavier the my old set, but as this is probably due to high quality build materials so I can live with it.
