Customers like the tracking of the wearable computer. They say it tracks daily steps pretty well, the free app provides useful tracking, and it works great for walking distances. Customers also appreciate the ability to track weight, menstrual cycle, and mood. However, some customers have reported issues with the watch-only GPS being too generous to be accurate.

"...The Charge 5 is my favorite model so far. Tracks workouts, steps, calories, heart rate among many things...." Read more
"...It does track my 4 mile bike rides quite well. It seems once the battery gets below 20%, it has more performance problems...." Read more
Customers are mixed about the performance of the wearable computer. Some mention it's working very well for everything they want and needs, while others say that it suddenly stopped working mid workout, and the little blinky green light stopped working after 17 months. The features are bugged and have problems all the time, with updates that remove functions. It doesn't work long distance and only works if the Fitbit app is running.
"...In my opinion, the only downside is the limited exercises available...there are only so many to choose from and you aren't able to add more...." Read more

Customers are mixed about the value of the wearable computer. Some mention it's a pretty decent watch, but it does lose a star for its size. However, it is one of the least expensive high quality heart rate monitors, and is worth every penny. However, others say it' s not worth spending money on this product, and the value to cost ratio is far too low.

Customers have mixed opinions about the sleep tracking feature of the wearable computer. Some mention that it monitors your sleep in amazing fashion and even displays your incoming text messages. They say the sleep assessment, Health Metrics and ability to log glucose are the best in the industry. However, others say that the sleep tracker is not as good as what is in Amazon Halo which has clear, consistent sleep scores. They also say that it is overly sensitive of detecting light sleep and stopped tracking their exercise, which was frustrating.
"...In terms of sleep tracking, it is overly sensitive of detecting light sleep even when I am awake in bed...." Read more
"...Clever combinations of data make interesting and fairly accurate conclusions about sleep, health, mood, and exercise...." Read more
"...I find that the sleep tracker is a little "bogus"...." Read more
"...The sleep assessment, Health Metrics and ability to log glucose are particularly useful...." Read more
Customers have mixed opinions about the accuracy of the wearable computer. Some mention that it's very accurate and reliable, while others say that it doesn't count their steps accurately, gives bizarre and impossible step readings, and is less accurate than in the past.
"...Though it is sad when sometimes it records no heart-rate or temperature data at night because I supposedly moved too much.)..." Read more
"...I have not studied this more. ECG / EKG seems accurate, but is very sensitive and often returns the result “inconclusive” instead of normal sinus..." Read more
"...decent watch given it's size, it does lose a star for it's inaccuracy of the heart rate at times...." Read more
"...The Charge 5 is my favorite model so far. Tracks workouts, steps, calories, heart rate among many things...." Read more
Customers are dissatisfied with the battery life of the wearable computer. They mention that the battery is not holding a charge, it won't take a charger, and it doesn't last through the night. This makes it difficult to track their sleep pattern.
"...At first I did notice that battery life seemed rather short but some brief research online pointed to a solution which worked very well...." Read more
"...went black, there were no lights coming out of the sensors, it wouldn't charge, and the manual reset with the charger did not work...." Read more
"...The battery charge can last all week for me, but easily charged if removed for shower or other activity...." Read more
"...This was a great little motivating dynamo until the battery died beyond repair and no amount of attempts at resetting, recharging, shutting down etc..." Read more
Customers are disappointed with the durability of the wearable computer. They mention that it broke in less than 5 years, the software breaks every six months, and the charger is not very durable. The tiny plastic mechanisms that hold the band in place broke, and it completely turns into a brick.
"...It is silicone so it irritated my skin and kept falling apart. I ordered replacement bands from Amazon...." Read more
"...In each case, the watch broke because I kept it on while in water...." Read more
"...The Fitbit is well built, durable, comfortable, industry leader, with many pros and cons...." Read more
"...2 for multiple years, but it was down to 2 days battery and the screen had 2 cracks, which seemed to be lengthening...." Read more

Pros, Cons, Features, Comments, Tips
The Fitbit is well built, durable, comfortable, industry leader, with many pros and cons. It is mostly accurate and still reasonably private with personal data - which the app stores with the company. Limited benefit without using the app. See more following in pros, cons, features, comments, and tips. I have used this watch very little for workouts, but worn nearly full time. I think it is a good value and purchase.
PROS: Large collection of features and physical data with surprising abilities. Using capillary measurements, gives very accurate heart rate with some exceptions. Overall, an excellent tool for heart condition monitoring and care. Can encourage and motivate by happily vibrating at key accomplishments like 5000 steps and other increments, minutes of exercise, daily or weekly scores for meditation, sleep scores, or goals in weight, calories, or other self care. Handy and functional timer, alarm, oxygen sensor, and heart monitor. EKG and GPS have some issues, so see Cons. Automatic detection of what exercise you are doing sometimes works (you can also tell it what you are doing). The watch can warn you if your heart is working too hard when you are sedentary or tell you to get off your duff if you have not taken 250 steps in the last hour (you set the vibration strength). The battery charge can last all week for me, but easily charged if removed for shower or other activity. (Can handle the water though and has a water sensitivity adjustment). Fairly good options for changing watch face, metric parameters, and various settings.
The free app shows clever development over time so that it includes charts, interpretation of data, links to videos, and many more features. Optionally, you may pay an annual premium fee to unlock a larger set of features. Most settings are made in the app. The app collects data and syncs when near the watch. Other app features include battery charge, many alerts, observations, and allows entry and tracking of weight, food, mood, water, and more. I find the daily heart rate chart and sleep score charts quite valuable.
CONS: The learning curve is steep and takes time to get used to. Although you can do much from the start, expect to be somewhat frustrated until you are used to features. Step counter can be fooled by certain manual activities (like playing lively rag time on the piano). GPS antennae seems to have issues and does not always work - according to tests. I have not studied this more. ECG / EKG seems accurate, but is very sensitive and often returns the result “inconclusive” instead of normal sinus rhythm or AFib. During many busy activities, the user may not notice the vibration, although timer and alarm are rather persistent (vibrator is adjustable in app). If your heart is beating very rapidly, the watch will congratulate you on your exercise even if you are seated with a heart out of control.
The App does Not Work without internet connection !!! You guessed it, your data is in a Google cloud far away, so if you want to show your doctor or someone some information, you can’t without a connection. A feature that is supposed to make an ECG chart that is readable for your doctor (or you) does not work for many people (there are suggestions and tips online). Blood oxygen reads too low and does not match measurements at a clinic, often low by up to 6% points but appeared to be more accurate after 6 months. Waking up the watch screen by moving wrist or tapping seems to have variable sensitivity and can be frustrating (there’s a setting for hours you must tap the screen if you want to see it). There are many features and calculations that the watch is making that will require study to learn about or understand.
FEATURES: Watch will turn off some features during hours you set, perhaps your sleeping hours. Good collection of faces to choose from. Very colorful. Tracking for weight, menstrual cycle, mood, and other information you may optionally enter, such as water and food intake. Determines levels of activity to fat burn and cardio workouts. Parameter defaults are for age, heart at rest rates, and sex, but can be set by user.
COMMENTS: Yes, Google bought them out, but had to fight with the European Union for approval - and had to make a privacy concession to get it. They promised to not make user data available outside the company for ten years, at which time that will be reviewed. It could be assumed that non-European customers will be treated similarly for convenience sake. See BBC clipping below.
Other brands have released blood pressure models that are somewhat accurate or need calibration. As of January 2023, Fitbit is still working on blood pressure methods for their devices.
Clever combinations of data make interesting and fairly accurate conclusions about sleep, health, mood, and exercise.
TIPS: Not all replacement charger cords make good contact. I suggest purchasing a charger dock (like the CAVN brand). It is really handy, affordable, and easy to use. Wearing the watch as loosely as comfortable seems to give the best results, but tightening up for workouts is recommended. To use the EKG option, it is best to sit in a chair with an arm-rest, relax, and do not move your left arm or hand where the watch is worn. The screen/face is very scratch resistant, but a protector is helpful in some activities. Some protectors that attach by loops over the straps have weak reviews, but good “stick-on” covers are available at low cost.
Google purchased Fitbit in November 2019 for $2.1 Billion. Fears of damage to competition caused the European Commission to elicit promises from Google. According to the BBC:
Google has now promised:
• not to use health, fitness and location data from Fitbit devices for advertising, for users in the European Economic Area
• to store Fitbit data in a "silo", kept separate from any other data used for advertising
• to maintain third-party access to the Fitbit platform
• not to degrade the user experience of third-party smartwatches when paired with an Android phone
The commitments must be kept for 10 years. Amazon does not permit me to site the URL, sorry.
No complaints.
This is my 4th over several years.
The Charge 5 is my favorite model so far. Tracks workouts, steps, calories, heart rate among many things. Love that I can buy interchangeable bands to suit my mood or my clothes.
Worth every penny in my opinion.

Personally I love my new tracker but I upgraded from an Inspire so the Charge 5 offers me a lot more functionality with the heart rate monitor and the more detailed sleep data etc. I am able to get a lot more information than I could before and I'm finding it very interesting and useful - I am taking advantage of the 6 months premium membership and enjoying the extra stats but not sure that I will keep it afterwards. I especially love the colour screen - the joy of being able to read the screen in the sunshine! I did try the screen always on function but it is very dim so you can't really see it and all you do is eat up the battery so doesn't seem like a useful function.
I am not a runner so I can't comment on how good it is for that but I love the active minutes and find myself walking that bit more briskly to earn more. I know there are some issues with the GPS but I always have my phone with me and use Strava to track my routes - even if I took up running I can't imagine that I would ever want to go out without my phone!
The battery life is great but does mean you have to consciously check the battery level rather than just charging every couple of days otherwise I suddenly discover it is low just when I'm about to go out. Having said that it does charge up really quickly so you can just pop it on charge for a short time to top it up if necessary.
I thought I would upgrade the strap as soon as I got the tracker but actually I find it stays done up, is very comfortable and I love the way the end tucks in. I may get a new strap at some point but I don't feel desperate for one.
If you have had a Fitbit before you will be familiar with the app and I find it very user friendly with lots of useful things to track. I have issues syncing with my phone but its a Huawei and I know I just need to put up with that until I can upgrade to a different phone so I'm not letting that affect my rating.
