The interface is just like Lynksys/Cisco routers of the past, but it is a little better navigation-wise. I'm using this for home use, it might be a little overkill, but it definitely has everything you could want other than it has no wireless access. For a wireless AP, I highly recommend an Engenius ECB350.
I purchased this product as a firewall between a Comcast cable modem and my network switch. It has been since the 26th of Jan and I still can not get this product working. I have called Linksys numerous times and have had 2 different case numbers opened for this product.
The first case number determined the product was defective and it was replaced. The second case number is still open with no resolution and no support.
The problem: We have a very simple network. Cable modem --> LRT214 Linksys Firewall --> Networks switch --> computers/printers etc.
When we plug in the LRT214 with the default setting out of the box the unit works fine for a while. Then the entire network crashes and the LRT214 must be rebooted in order to restore the network. All console login to the device goes down and ONLY a hard power reboot will get the unit back up.
The firmware was upgraded to the latest and a factory reset to default settings was performed. Both the original unit and the replacement unit are doing the exact same thing. They crash all the time.
After opening the second case on the replacement unit I was told 24-48 hours for someone to call me back and work with me on this issue. It has been 5 days and I again had to call Linksys back and they told me it was assigned to someone who will call me.
I was told on the phone this is a business class product; they will not work with you until they transfer you to their business class team. Really? 5 days to respond and that is business class?
I have 2 internet connections to my business. Our original circuit is ATT and the network topology is : ATT modem/router --> Networks switch --> computers/printers. EVERYTHING works great in this setup. We decided to upgrade our internet connection to Comcast 50Mbps circuit and needed to get a new modem and firewall. So when we unplug the ATT modem/router and install the LRT214 with the Arris modem we get this network topology : Cable modem --> LRT214 Linksys Firewall --> Networks switch --> computers/printers
Everything crashes and the LRT214 lockups every time. When we switch back to ATT modem/router connection we get a stable network.
First time Linksys business class product purchaser. This unit is going back if they don't call me today and fix it.
3/3/2016 - Product still defective. I call Linksys customer support every other day with no resolution in place. They tell me engineering is looking into it, but no one calls or emails with updates. I tried to call Belkin in CA for USA based help since they own linksys.. NOPE. No one can help. You have to call the Linksys support in the south pacific area. Every time I call same story... read the case notes and tell me someone will call me and it is being worked on. Amazon won't return the product, as it is beyond 30 days.
If this is the support you want for your business class product then by all means buy a junksys product. If anyone at Linksys is reading this and is based in the USA with some tiny bit of authority to do something by all means contact me.
THE WORLD IS BROKEN. What happened to customer services, tech support and doing the right thing?
