It's Windows on a USB drive. You install it. It comes with a product key.The only thing that worked was the product key.The USB stick wouldn't install on a clean, brand new Kingston SSD. It would always fail before installation finished. I thought maybe I got a faulty drive and sighed in disappointment. Then I tried on a formatted 5400RPM old WD HDD I had lying around, and that failed too.Do I did what anyone would do: Downloaded the ISO off the Microsoft website, grabbed an old 8GB Sony USB stick I found on the floor in a dirty old abandoned house, used Rufus to create a USB boot drive, and it installed the first time, with no issue on the Kingston SSD.I would simply advice buying a product key digitally. The physically media was entirely useless. Unless you really want a 16GB flash drive that says "Windows" on it.

I'm not going to write another big, pretty, detailed, lengthy review of Windows 10, only to have it deleted again like Microsoft did when they removed and reissued the original Windows 10 part number (which caused ALL original reviews to be wiped from Amazon......).

However, I will say a few things:

1. The new USB stick install is so much faster than installing Windows from DVD that I cannot even estimate it without sounding like I'm exaggerating - literally many TIMES faster to reinstall. Very nice.

2. For Windows 10, Microsoft listened to most Windows 8 complaints and got it mostly right. I say "mostly" because the BIG annoyance is they took away full control of the Windows Update feature -- so it just runs nonstop and you can't stop it! This is a major problem for countless good reasons, and they REALLY need to patch to bring back the full control of updates. Very bad.

3. Drivers, drivers, drivers. They're always a problem, but I'm impressed how hard Microsoft really did try in this version of Windows to automatically download from the internet the proper drivers for your devices. This is a double-edge sword, though, because when Win10 goes nuts trying to auto-update itself (that you cannot stop!) it might install a wrong driver and cause BIG problems. This gets back to my point of needing full control back for updates..

4. Privacy does not exist per se by default. There are countless guides out there to follow, for making tons of changes to Windows 10 default settings to add back in your privacy. And by NO PRIVACY AT ALL, I mean even the simplest of courtesy's like not having people just walk into my private wifi network or track in the cloud my every mouse click. If you can believe it, Windows 10 defaults to letting anyone in the world walk right into your wifi network and use it if you've friended them at some point in your life. That's outrageous, and only one of hundreds of insulting settings everyone's complaining about. I'd imagine in the future this over-the-top aggressive lack of privacy will lead to lawsuits for Microsoft, but for now I guess they're getting to data-mine everyone who just goes with their new horribly in-your-face-invasive default settings. Very, very bad.

Overall, AFTER many manual tweaks, and a few months of patches, I'm liking it better now... but still needs work!

Well packaged for a Microsoft product; however, installation is extremely problematic on my new Dell desktop running WIN 8.1. The installation instructions are nil. They say to set up your computer to boot to the USB drive. Well, in new computers running WIN 8.1, that is a multi-step process, and I had to go to Dell and Microsoft and other blogs to finally get clear instructions. WIN 8.1 does not allow easy access to BIOS to make the boot order change, and the direct access to BIOS (needed to change boot order) now goes through an intermediate step - UEFI. Once in and changed, a re-start is needed and you must navigate to the 'file manager' and locate "SETUP" stored on the USB drive. This latter step is never mentioned! THEN, if you have an internet connection, the set up program looks for updates. This takes an inordinately long time. After that, installation of WIN 10 PRO begins. I'll update later if WIN 10 PRO is actually worth all this effort; but as is the installation using the USB drive is a PITA. I would have thought that with all their (Microsoft) expertise, they would have come up with a much more user-friendly and easier way to upgrade one of their own OS (WIN 8.1) systems. This is like driving square pegs into round holes. And, in case you're wondering, I have lots of computer experience, a new DELL desktop with plenty of RAM, and a high speed internet connection. So, it ain't me, folks. :-) PS Only reason I did this was my employer required WIN 10 PRO for its "security features," otherwise I would have sent this USB back pronto.
Update: Few days after my nightmare installation, I have WIN 10 Pro up and running, or so I thought. I could not seem to get the encryption application or feature to load and install, and it supposedly comes with WIN 10 Pro. After Googling and reading, I go to Microsoft for help. The agent examines my machine, and tells me I do not have WIN 10 Pro, but rather WIN 10 Home. Huh? I paid for, and the retail packaging said "PRO." But, alas, it was not - it was HOME, and that was why the encryption feature (BitLocker) was not installed. It was never on the USB drive to begin with. So, and I do not blame Amazon, because they are wonderful about issues like this; whoever sold this USB WIN 10 Pro to Amazon either deliberately or inadvertently put the wrong software on the USB drive. I think it may have been counterfeit, because since the installation, my mouse and computer have been behaving erratically, and my Anti-Malware software detected hits; and that was unusual. So, I had to send it back for a refund. Thanks, Amazon, for standing behind your customers; but, buyers of this software -- beware.
